I like Andrew, I think he will make a great housemate imo.

Excellent post Angus and yes, I do believe that our society is way too wrapped up in looks and all that superficial nonsense. It's actually quite depressing that it still has such a profound influence on how we view others and live our lives, but sure that will never change.

Only the very shallowest and most immature are rocked by someone's looks without taking anything else into account, and they'll battle at length to convince you they're right. Empty vessels, and all that. These people aren't going to be young and beautiful forever and in a few years they'll have nothing to offer. Beauty fades, but stooopid is forever.

Absolutely. Look how long, despite many eviction attempts, it's taken not so bonny Dave to be not put up for eviction. JJ acts like an arse but it's all forgotten because he's pretty.

I think Josie has the girl next door look which some of the female audience find attractive as they find it non-threatening. So I think her looks do have an influence on voters in a way. I don't find her that interesting though.

You can sit on your high horse and pretend like you've never given preferential treatment to someone because they looked nice or had an uncomfortable shock when you see someone with a disfigurement. We all do it. Best we accept it and move along...pretty people have problems too, especially on a show like this.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

I do not find JJ physically appealing and it baffles me why so many do. Andrew I don't find ugly - not gorgeous either. Just average.

I agree with this - the problem is society elevates our perception of people on tv so average suddenly becomes too ugly for TV. It's a shame that this is what society has come to that beauty is seen above intelligence I hope its something were able to get over or we'll evolve into a species of beauties but so dumb we'll never advance.
It has already happened with the music industry - It used to be all about the talent and not looks and now it all pretty people singing covers.

Very true, particularly women who aren't thought to be average enough in their looks or character.

I have no problem with people who are good looking, so long as that's not all they have to offer.

And the same goes for people who are bad looking.

But your first-impressions are always based on looks. Nothing to say that once we get to know them, our opinions won't change.

I agree to some extent, but there are always people who will forgive others any outrageous behaviour so long as they're perceived as "fit", and will patronise and belittle others because they're perceived as ugly, even if they're actually nice people.

Nice thread OP - far too many people these days 'judge a book by it's cover' and don't bother to see what's inside..so much more to a person than how they look

People are always quick to judge a book by its cover.... whether you are deemed good looking or not.... Thats what makes shows like this interesting because we do get to see what people are like underneath.
