The immediate reaction of everyone was to comment on Andrew's looks and make some really off colour assumptions about him based purely on that. It seems that good looking people are immediately accepted without even trying, whilst ugly people have a massive barrier of prejudice and discrimination to overcome before anyone gives them the time of day.

Perhaps ugliness needs to be elevated to the status of a disability since it clearly inhibits people from progressing in life generally due to the unreasonable and unjustified prejudice of shallow people who think being "fit" is the be all and end all of everything.

people who judge only on looks always end up losing in the long term because they lose out on people who might have made really good friends

I haven't commented on his looks really. Just that he looks geeky, but that was relating to the information we were given about him as well.

He seems to be a canny lad. Nobody is perfect. Beauty comes from within, and so does true ugliness.

Good looks help with first impressions but it will cause friction when it comes to a competition like this. Andrew won't be seen as a threat, the other two are going to have problems long term.

I wish that were true, but there have been plenty of threads on here that comment purely on her looks. I don't like her for a variety of reasons, but how she looks isn't one of them.

This! It has become really tedious listening to the shallow judgements of the idiots on this forum!

Bet most are far from being oil paintings themselves - and it simply makes them, and their insecurities, feel better - putting someone else's appearance down in this way!

Society has caused people to think that way. Fat, ugly and the disabled are not acceptable that is why people say it without thinking they have offended anyone it just rolls off the tongue.

'Geeks' usually end up doing very well for themselves, with good, well paid jobs - and comfortable lifestyles. Give me geeks to jerks any day!

Since coming on this forum I have come to detest the word 'cool' as it is just used to justify people's shallowness! Being nasty and bitchy is apparently, to some, being 'cool' as is having a certain look and/or image! If you don't fit a certain image - then you are not 'cool' - got no time for that nonsense. In my book - the people that use the word 'cool' to describe people - are not cool!

Excellent post Angus and yes, I do believe that our society is way too wrapped up in looks and all that superficial nonsense. It's actually quite depressing that it still has such a profound influence on how we view others and live our lives, but sure that will never change.

Only the very shallowest and most immature are rocked by someone's looks without taking anything else into account, and they'll battle at length to convince you they're right. Empty vessels, and all that. These people aren't going to be young and beautiful forever and in a few years they'll have nothing to offer. Beauty fades, but stooopid is forever.

Absolutely. Look how long, despite many eviction attempts, it's taken not so bonny Dave to be not put up for eviction. JJ acts like an arse but it's all forgotten because he's pretty.
