Is a human life more important than an animals? To me yes because I'm a human [except in extreme cases like the above]. However I have no grudge with the tiger that disagrees.

Also had a minor pants explosion at Dezzy's current Last FM play.

I think all sentient life is important. As humans are in a unique position of power, we have a duty to make sure animals don't suffer in our care, that if they're eaten they are humanely slaughtered, that their habitat is protected and that they're not subjected to cruelty or neglect at our hands.

Six hunters were sent in by the emergency services to kill the mother bear and her three cubs.

(why?)

As no life has any importance or meaning there is no difference only that which we place on it.

Its a religious hangover that we think humans are more important.

I already contributed my answer. Not everyone who thinks you are pushing it a bit is trying to get attention. I suppose playing Christian apologetics for a year or two and then switching to rampant nihlism has nothing to do with playing 'look at me'?

We create the meaning in our lives. We empathise with humans more than any other animal and rightly so. I could sit here all day providing biological/evolutionary/neurological reasons why that is the case. I could discuss it in poetic or scientific terms.

Valuing human life more than the lives of other species is not the massive leap of faith or arrogant stance of assumption you're making it out to be.

I think it's more to do with reason, intellect, emotion, the opposable thumb and being at the top of the food chain than religion.

But we all know that we are not more important but that we make it so in our own minds.

I suppose it's to do with what you consider 'important' to mean. All animals have their place and their function in the scheme of things. Maybe not the wasp, which is the skinhead of the insect world.

Unfortunately I'd have to say yes because I eat animals.

Of course yes.

Whoever says the contrary has social issues.

Animals are good. In my stomach. This is how life goes baby. We eat them. No pity.

My friends and family and myself, and people I sort of know, yes.

But I'd rather a stranger or someone I dislike die than an animal. Unless it was like an ant.

A really excellent question Leather Trumpet, wow, it's a tricky one,I think I would say saving a Human over an Animal should be more important but I can't, I couldn't say that I would save a HUman over any Animal.

It would really depend on the circumstances, our family dog for instance, I doubt I would save anyone other than my family over him.

Brilliant question LT, you have me for one, stumped on this one for a definitive answer.
