I've got loads in my loft, I've kept most of them, although it's years since I bought any.........I just love owning them and looking at them, it makes me feel good.......it's like a couple of my friends are using those Kindle books......and I can't understand why you wouldn't want to 'own' an actual book...........there's nothing quite like the feeling of owning a Vinyl or a book, I've got everything from The Beatles, Cat Stevens, Elton John, David Bowie to Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple.............you got me carried away there........*blush*

I've heard a lot of avid music friends swear by the same thing and their vinyl collections are sacred.

I have all The Wonder Stuff err ... stuff ... on cassette. I robbed them from my aunt as a child and she hasn't gotten them back yet.

The Stuffies still kick ass. Just pretend Dizzy never happened.

I own my dad's copy of Pink Floyd's "The Wall" on cassette and that has huge sentimental value for me. But I've bought some before too; mostly silly pop singles though.

I used to go bonker when you'd be taping the charts on a Sunday night - and just before your fav song finished: the bloody DJ would talk over it.

Yes I have cassettes
as Rare Gigs or Rare Remixes are sometimes only on them.

I then transfer it to a 24bit CD.

I'm glad to see there aren't a ton of "no" responses!

I remember the days when I would listen to hours of music on the radio to try to record one of my favorite songs, lol!

Cassettes aren't actually that outdated though are they, only really think it's in the last decades they've died out

No, it was because despite Betamax having superior quality, there were numerous drawbacks. Recording times were shorter and the equipment was generally more expensive. One of the primary issues in the cost for equipment being in favor of VHS was that JVC had licensed out the VHS tech to other companies, which meant other companies were having to compete with each other to create lower priced products.

Despite having better vertical resolution(in the first variant), Betamax was limited to an hour recording time. Another variant came out with a longer recording time, but it came at the cost of decreased vertical resolution(240, just like VHS). Later on there was a 290 variant, but Betamax was out of the game.

Betamax was actually used for a long time in the video production industry, only to be phased out by the introduction of HD.

Oh yeah. Winding them on with pens haha. Trouble is, I'd get impatient and sit idly spinning the cassette around with one hand, tape twirling in the air, only for it to at some point fly across the room

My 'relatively new' stereo has a tape deck. The reason I started the thread was cos I asked my 13 year old if she knew what one was and she didn't

Yes! Regardless of all of the above, Betamax didn't take off as far as the domestic brown goods market was concerned - which fms here would have been part of, rather than on a commercial or professional level.

I had the Teletubbies song on tape for some reason even though I was about 8 when it came out

I remember I needed a tape to record something so I stole my mums Celine Dion tape and put sellotape over the square on the top. That didn't go down well

I remember my sister shouting at me to get out of her room because I was making too much noise when she was trying to record stuff ... all picked up on the mic of course

Used to do that with videos too, I partially recorded over my mum & dads wedding with SMTV Live (they took the plastic square out so noone could tape over it)

this is like a trip down memory lane!!! LOL

The one video I was completely gutted about some arse putting tape over to reuse it: was a rare interview with George Michael on Jonathan Ross (I'm going back like about 26 years ago). God, I'm sure I can even recall the month July (19th? rings a bell). It was the first TV showing of the vid "I want your sex". I was ready to slit my wrists as I utterly adored him.
