He's popular in America because he's a joke. All of the Jersey Shore people are JOKES, they are outrageous caricatures of guidos and pop culture, that's what's funny about them.
It will be interesting to see the British response to him. Will they get the joke?
Deep down though they are endearing though, because they are so naive and so unaware of how they are perceived. Any one who has watched the entire Jersey Shore run actually ends up having real affection for them because they are decent human beings deep down. I wonder if Brits will be able to see the decent human being underneath all of the horribleness.

I have watched some of Jersey Shore and some of Geordie Shore and I think that the difference between the two is that the Jersey kids can be fully committed to being pantomimes of themselves, they are very tongue in cheek, and they still completely accept themselves.
As for his abs, in the begining of the show they WERE perfect, but he's been living a pretty decadent lifestyle since the show got popular, and he's started making a lot of money.
Also he does bring home a girl nearly every night they go out. But they basically pick up very drunk girls and the local bar who's purpose is to find a stranger to have sex with. I am interested to see how he does with sober girls who are a little more buttoned up than he's use to.
