I have to agree with this, I've heard people say this before as a joke to white people too

If he had said this to a white British person, I would have seen it as banter... the fact he said this to and Asian woman is just awwwwkard!!
![]() I don't know if be meant it as racist, but it certainly comes across as racist to me!

It's tough nowadays to call a comment strictly racist when almost everybody has a group of friends that is culturally diverse and you joke about various things together, that some not in your group could consider racist. The line is becoming thin between racist and not racist in some things.
I am guilty of this stereotyping of muslims wearing big backpacks, especially on the tube and I am of course not racist. I laugh sometimes because they know that scares many people, and it seems like they're wearing big packs on purpose to watch people squirm. But yeah the line is getting thin on some things. A lot of white/asians say ***** now. How long before the "a" goes to "er" and it becomes socially acceptable, except in some cases.

The world is getting confused. We have citizen khan on a white owned channel (bbc) where the Asian actors could make a joke about terrorists, and you can laugh (or not) but don't join along in the joke.

Seems stupid and foolish, they were probably joking and didn't mean it and just blurted it out

....I know lots of people who've had similar things said, in very similar situations...it's a stupid and thoughtless thing to say, but not necessarily racist....

Assuming her outrage is a cover for greed is much more offensive. Victims are looked down on for recieving a monetary award in cases. As yet we have no proof she intends to take action, what a cynical world we live in.

Early in the Summer I went to Parliament with the usual massive bag of paperwork. The security guard said "it's not ticking, is it?" I'm outraged.

Parliament would actually be a terrorist target though, I don't see any reason why someone would make that joke in a gym. Regardless I think it's different saying it to a Muslim because it perpetuates the stereotype of Muslim = terrorist, something that white women don't have to worry about

Depends who it was said to tbh...
And if it was directed towards Muslims then that's just as bad as it being racist. Fair enough if you don't like Islam (I absolutely detest the horrid religion) but labouring under this ridiculous illusion that they're all terrorists is stereotyping and no different to saying that all whites are racists, or all blacks criminals.

If the comment wasn't racist why would the Asian woman be angry in the first place?

I have it in for racist bigots in general and I wouldn't want to be tarred under the same brush as these idiots because the colour of my skin is white and I'm sure plenty of black people wouldn't wish to be thought of as a criminal because of their skin colour so I fail to see why Asians should have to put up with it either. :/

Well, yes, that's true, but it's still stereotyping. The whole thing about racism is an entirely different argument and I agree that if people are choosing to do something people are more than free to comment on their lifestyles...
