[not a woman obviously but still throwing my two cents in]

I'd find it ridiculously difficult to pretend to enjoy the abuse... and at the end of the day he could have just killed her anyway, so something makes me think he wasn't intending to kill her. But it's a fantastic story of valiance though, and the fact she's anti-death penalty is amazing. Wonderful woman

Same here, in fact I would probably get myself killed in those situations as I would fight back.

Sort of going off-topic a bit there Mock. Did you listen to the woman speaking about it all?

Yeah sorry about that, and I read bits of it but I always find stories like this to disturbing to read, I think anyone that likes to do one of those crimes to people are sick bastards, but doing both is just to much for me.

She realised what made him angry and stopped doing it, it must be a totally different mindset when you are focused totally on staying alive.
Trying to tune-in to how someones mind is working, attempting to build a rapport with the attacker...
I don't know if I would have the guts to do that.

I wonder why "Think of what it will do to your mother" triggered him, usually when Serial Killers have someone at their mercy they don't even see them as Human. She must've picked up on that and like she said, try bring him back round to seeing her as a Human Being.

Serial killers are strange, maybe he cared for his Mother and turned all psycho when something happened to her.

I remember seeing a prog on missing persons, when relatives do appeals if there is thought to be a good chance they are still alive they repeat their name over and over.
Mentioning loved ones and such in an attempt to stop the captor from dehumanizing them.
I would be very wary of any man who had an unhealthy relationship with their mother.

Yeah I've heard stuff like that aswell, sadly I think the more emotion you show in those cases the more pleasure the captor has and does away with the victim and pretend that they are still alive and give the family hope when they've not got a cat in hells chance anymore.

Yeah, it's kind of a "Norman Bates" complex.

Yeah it almost always leads back to the mother for some reason. They're also usually White Middles Class males that start the killings in their 20's. There's been cases of Serial Killers letting people go before though but don't think the victims quite did what she did.

I agree this woman was exceptionally brave and very lucky to be alive. The mental and physical scars may never heal but at least she managed to survive this horrific ordeal. Most people would not be able to think calmly under such extreme circumstances but she managed to calm down this psychopath and ultimately communicate with him through all the hate this man was displaying. perhaps it was a type of "Stockholm syndrome" where the captive feels pity for the captor, although reading her account of her ordeal it probably was not a classic Stockholm syndrome situation.

Either way one very brave lady.....!!!!!
