What I find truly disturbing is that anyone would attempt to prioritise one gender as superior to another, or attempt to suggest that there is a divide in the way cancer research is funded that it could or should be of greater benefit to one sex or the other.
We are all fighting, though some are choosing to attack a whole sex due to their own experiences, that is what anyone would consider as the definition of disturbed.
Im very sorry to hear about your father.

I dont think its disturbed to address the issue. the fact is there are limited funds available from the governments treasury for the NHS and cancer, (and for charities) and the fact is that women get a vast amount more of this money per head than men. this is despite the fact men die of cancer more regularly, they die younger and commit suicide at 4 times the rate. women ALWAYS compare their facts and figures against men , when the agenda suits them. yet when the figures dont suit their argument that they are always oppressed then they disingenuously accuse the person of being disturbed. frankly that accusation is disturbed. I dont find that empathetic and ive not read you say anything empathetic on this issue.

The fact is we don't know why the death rates are so disproportionate..
Cancer is genetic in most cases, therefore lifestyle has little or nothing to do with how hard or how long you work before it mutates into a malignant state.
and apart from cancers affecting sexual organs most research is of benefit to both sexes isn't it?
Socialisation has a role to play in the suicide rate and there is much more awareness now of mens mental health issues as well as funding to help in this area.
Stop worrying about oppression and accept that there is not always an agenda..

Im delighted to say unlike the many male haters on here I look at both sides. Ive written 100s of posts in support of women when the situation was right. Sadly the male haters on here dont show the same balance. even when it comes to men getitng infinitely less support and less financial funding for their massive increases of cancer, still the male haters here cannot show any empathy or balance, shame on them all.

Can we debate in here without resorting to digs at each other.

The main problem here is male bowel cancer is up 25% , but its not receiving enough attention and is getting vastly less funding than womens cancer simply because it doesnt get as much media attention. the government and the nhs should not be so controlled by media headlines, but instead by the facts. the facts show male cancer is growing disporportionately to womens cancer and female health is disporportionately funded by the government compared to men. the result is more men are going undiagnosed, less money is spent on male cancer research and the same applies across the board to all health matters. there is an enormous disparity in the funding given to womens health over men. Its plain wrong. this is one of the many reasons why men die younger.

Here are some statistics of where we sit as to the cases of cancer in the UK.
Men 280 cases per 100'000 people
women 260 cases per 100'000 people

Scientists estimate about 47% of bowel cancer cases in the UK could be prevented through eating more foods containing fibre, eating less red and processed meat, drinking less alcohol, being physically active and maintaining a healthy weight.

Some of the male responses in this thread show what I think is the main problem. Most men do not like the idea of being tested for stuff routinely, which would really help with catching things early on.

Its no good chucking a load of money on regular bowel exams or whatever if noone is going to show up to them :S
