Guys... seriously don't pity the town. This is my home town and I am living here now. My mum is friends with someone who knows that Dean guy and apparently they were paid a bit of money to milk it.

And as for the Connor, apparently he was arrested recently.

Scunthorpe is not like that at all, it is a great town and this show puts a bad light on an okay town.

Channel 4 should be ashamed.

Thanks for your comment, I think they were paid too, I also think it is a government initiative as they own C4 to use this programme to demonize all those welfare dependent those on DLA specifically.
You are right I think they have been set up like fish in a barrel to be investigated during to course of the series.
I am not saying for one minute that fraud is right, it isn't. I just feel this programme devisive.

Is everyone from Scunthorpe a drunk or drug addict? The locals must be furious. this show is very negative.

They done the same with The Scheme (this scottish show just like this) focused on all the addicts, alcoholics etc and never bothered filming any of the decent people that have ended up on benefits.

People like the girl that was shoplifting/prostituting herself can't remember her name really piss me off though, blaming the shoplifting for her losing her kids and failing to point out that her injecting smack probably played the biggest part in it, they are too willing to blame things on other people, their upbringing, surroundings etc well that's all bollocks IMO, they made the choices that have lead to them being in those circumstances, they are responsible for the way their life ends up, they need to suck it up, stop going through life acting like a victim and take control.

one of the most stereotypical shows I've ever seen, and not helping the matter by glorying the individuals who take part in it

The story of the lass on methadone who was in care all her life, whos parents were addicts too was heartbreaking. I hope she gets out of there and manages to stay clean for her little lad.

They did a similar show on Nottingham in the early 90's. There was a lot of fuss in the city about how negatively they showed us.
