I don't see any heartlessness on this thread, you want to hand 100,000 to some young lad who is is full health, good looking, and got a lot going for him because he happens to be partially deaf? I don't think people are because we are not defining him by his deafness.

Sorry if I misinterpreted your post but it annoys me that people are looking at his disability rather than his ability.

He HAS a disability and he or anyone else shouldn't be afraid to mention that fact as if it is something to be ashamed of. That is a separate issue from his ability. Sam is a smart, highly independent, down to earth young man with a good heart and a good sense of humour. But this thread isn't about his merits, it is about him talking about his disability. Neither really. He's doing incredibly well reading lips and the housemates don't even realize it because he is so good. But of course he'll suffer in group settings. However, it was not heart breaking nor begging for the sympathy vote either. I liked his honesty on the situation and I don't think he's the kind to go for the sympathy vote.

Was I imagining it, or at the end of Callum's interview with Sam, did he shake his head, say 'so sad' to himself (to the cameras) and then start wiping non-existant tears from his eyes? When Sam gets to watch this back, how is he going to feel seeing Callum being so theatrically patronising. It turned my stomach. No-one wants to be pitied!!!!!

I don't think Sam will look it as being pitied more likely to realise Callum was moved by Sam opening up like that.

Actually, yes, Sam is likely to only see it as a positive reaction. It is mainly the fact that Callum said 'So sad' out loud unnecessarily, that made my stomach churn.

Untrue in the unedited version of the clip Sam said Gina was the only one who listened to him properly.

It must be awfully hard being deaf. There's nothing about your appearance to say that you have any kind of disability, and it makes your speech sound slow... and if you miss chunks of the conversation, people assume it's because you're a bit stupid.
And of course... the are the opinions of the hard-hearted, as we can see on here; who've probably never felt empathy in their life.

I do think their friendship is genuine. It's Callum relationship to Charlie I'd worry about!

I don't see why he would be looking for a sympathy vote at this time, he doesn't even know he's up?
Anyway I think the conversation was 100% genuine and he wouldn't have told any other housemate that apart from Callum, he's actually doing brilliantly in there, think how difficult it must be trying to keep up with conversations and stuff going on when they are all speaking over each other and stuff, Callum is the only one in there that actually takes time to explain conversations and situations to Sam too, it's a very nice genuine friendship they have going on. |

yeah he may get some sympathy but hes not looking for it....I think going in there with 85% deafness is just extraordinary braveness. and if people want to vote him to win for that braveness fair enough I say

I find it insuiting to even think the public would give him a sympathy vote.
Sam has gone in there to gain understanding of his disability not sympathy. If he wins then he will win because of his character and not his deafness. He is a lovely lad, not perfect but one of the best of the bunch this year. |

There's a massive difference between sympathy and empathy.
Sadly some people seem tot hink they're the same.
