I guess, although immoral, the focus on keeping the elderly alive as long as possible should be narrowed. I know for sure if I was 80 and was unable to look after myself I would rather no longer be alive, Id just be a nuisance.

But it depends on how serious the big people think this problem is!
This actually proved disastrous in China because now they're facing the problem of too many old people and not enough young people to take care of them, plus female infanticide has led to many more males than females, so a lot of men are unable to marry.

It was succesful in slowing the population increase which is what the thread was looking at.

Theres gonna be consequences whatever actions get put in place.

No method Is perfect as Swineisfine has pointed out but also like Jords has said purely on the goal oF population control it works.

Unfortunately there seems to be this sliding barometer where on one side we have population control and on the other we have freedom of choice. Whatever we decide to do to curb any serious population incline is no doubt going to infringe on a persons basic human rights.

We should sterilise all disabled and non-white people. Get this planet back on track.

people have been dying from starvation since the beginning of time and that will never change.
don't worry about how many people there are, we will all be long dead before its an issue for any of us.

We are in a better position to deal with it than we ever have been.

And I know I'll be food for the worms before any of this really matters but that attitude has pretty much *******ed up our planet. Ah it's alright ill just pop all that waste in here it won't be my problem etc.

What could we do to curb population growth without becoming totalitarian? Does this bother anyone else?
This is purely my own view and it's nothing more than idle speculation but I think it makes a lot of sense...

The world is overcrowded. There are too many people using resources that the planet cannot regenerate fast enough. The sharp rise in population over the last century has been unbelievable. Nature has a way of balancing out such over/underpopulations - if there are lots of rabbits one year, the number of predators will rise too. If there are fewer rabbits, there are fewer predators. Humans are not generally preyed upon by any animal beyond surprise attacks from animals like polar bears and sharks. We are at the top of the food chain. So we're being wiped out by cancers, infertility, homosexuality, viruses, plagues, our own stupidity... Call me crazy but it makes a lot of sense to me. Every time we cure an incurable illness, another one springs up in its place. In the past, people didn't live long enough to get cancer or have organ problems... with medical advances being made all the time, we're just going to suffer from more complicated illnesses as time goes by and as the world's population increases.

Zee I read an interesting fact today on one of them toilet trivia books.

Apparently there are more people alive today than have died EVER!

If that's true then that's mind blowing.

I doubt it really, but meh.

I agree with zee, the next problem will one of our doing, with all the carcinogens pumping into the atmosphere and strange viruses with no cure that may be the next great leveler.

''The number of people with the virus in November 2012 was nearly 100,000.

But a quarter of people who have the human immunodeficiency virus are not aware they have been infected.''

'' Under the HIV Testing Kits and Services Regulations 1992, it is currently illegal to sell kits which offer on-the-spot HIV results in the UK.

But officials plan to change the law so people can perform a saliva test at home to quickly give a result.''

They have been aware of the dangers of this virus for years... so why the delay for this simple test?

take all the benefits off the workless freeloaders who sit around breeding and smoking all day and only give them vouchers for their kids. that is the only way to curb Britain becoming even more of a vile chavland
