To play devils advocate; whatever you think of the McCanns, they CHOSE to promote a massive media campaign around Madeleine, it has always been furthered and driven by them. They can't do that and also have mass speculation "wiped from the internet" ... The two just don't gel.

As for the issue of actual "trolls" - which I don't think is the right term, "trolling" was historically relatively harmless fun poking and winding people up (e.g. Rick Roll et al.) and things like this, and kids being tormented to the point of suicide, are way beyond that. It's criminal harassment, purely and simply. NOT making that distinction is making matters worse... People can't understand the difference between a benign wind-up and doing genuine harm and a line needs to be drawn, including in the terminology. They are not "trolls".
