By the way rusticgal my point in all this is don't always believe what you are given , Dee was on benefits , the programme you saw captured an hour of footage over what period of time I have no idea, when she was being interviewed she would of-course be sitting down drinking coffee, the programme was about people on benefits ,had she done any voluntary work I doubt we would have seen it.
I told you I drove a Merc I lived in a gated community , that could easily be a prison, there are big gates you live in a community, I could be driving the prison laundry van which happens to be a Merc , I have my own business , could be selling drugs inside the prison , I work very hard, in prisons you get assigned jobs mine could be sweeping corridors.I tell you stuff you make assumptions but they are not always right. |

The damage to people on benefits has already been done what with IDS going on about 'your neighbours closed curtains on a morning' (slagging night workers off at the same time...) and the mail/right wing rags constantly on about benefits.
Dee wont make a difference. |

I dont think shes sterotyping either tbh.just some viewers who already have a problem with the benefit system will jump on her as an example...people dont say (for example) that James is stereotyping dancers by being a bitch

But in response to the OP.. no i don't think Dee is stereotyping, if anything she is the victim of a harsh and widespread stereotype, given to people on benefits by people who have never had to experience life on benefits.
If you have never walked a day in the life of someone who has had to claim benefits for whatever reason, then your right to judge should be reserved until the day you have to do the same thing.

I would think that most people would have guessed in advance that there would be the typical "anti benefits claimers" response to Dee when we heard she was going in.
Add to that the typical "anti fat" comments and some people have responded pretty predictably. If you don't like her as a person, fair enough. We all have our pet hates / high horses - so maybe we all fall foul of this type of thing occasionally. Unfortunately the vitriol generalises to possibly affect a lot of other people who really should not be subject to this treatment. |

I had to claim benefits when I lived in supported housing at 16 (sorry to get all deep) but even at that age the £45 a fortnight I was given was pittance, I wanted work and to earn money to buy stuff and have independence not sit on my arse in some house full of drop outs.
The kicker is with the system the government had in place was if I came off benefits I would be kicked out as only people on benefits were entitled to a home when being booted to the curb. Anyway back to Dee I get the impression Dee had no intention of ever getting a job, she was happy being street mama and not really going anywhere with her life. What satisfaction do people get from living on a budget with no prospects? I experienced it for 8 months and was going loopy with boredom. Its a sad life.
