Yeah, there's a lot of jokes being taken out of context. They can't just say "don't joke".

Maybe your posts are getting reported by those you are "joking" with who obviously don't see it as a joke.

Well I know that now.

The problem then becomes people taking things as a joke and laughing on forum and then reporting you behind your back instead of coming out with it.

I'm not saying this happened... I'm saying it's a possibility.

Just don't bait, or only joke with people you know aren't going to be offended.

That's another thing, if a post is reported because it offend someone it doesn't involve, then action shouldn't be taken tbh, it should only be if the person it's aimed at is offended or if it's a serious rule break or a more social issue.

Like if I told Marsh he has "squinty eyes", he would know I was referencing something he said about himself before, but might reply with something aimed at me, someone might find this offensive and report it, but because it's not entirely 100% clear to the people who aren't involved it could result in an infraction for me or both of us if his reply was something similarly distinctive.

It was just an example, I am not going to give a serious one because this is a clean thread and I want it to be nice with no trouble.

You think they're taking it as a joke but 9 times out of 10 the post you're infracted for has been reported and brought to the mods attention by the person who is supposedly in on the joke

I know, I was banned from a build up of infractions, one of them was a 100% wrongful infraction. This thread isn't about the ban, I don't care about being banned for one day, this is about a bigger issue.

Tbh I had this happen to me the once.

I normally can understand my infractions, but when I got infracted for jokingly calling Katie Hopkins fans "UKIP Chavs" and I asked them why I got infracted for it, they didn't reverse it, and they didn't even respond to me.

Yes, but its ALWAYS been a rule on here not to insult fans? Can you say that every hopkins fan on the forum would have taken being called a chav as a joke? Especially the more sensitive bb only posters...

Well no they didn't, but should I still get infracted for something that was a joke because some people took offense to it?

Yeah, that's a perfectly reasonable reason to get infracted for

You all act like we infract people for fun though, it's not like trawling through all the sh*te in the Lounge or wherever is enjoyable, it's mainly when reports start coming through that Mods respond to it

I know that it's not for fun, it's probably really boring. I would hate to be a mod and have to handle a report in a Rachel Rice Fan Club or something, I couldn't be bothered to read it all and figure out the true context unless it was blatantly obvious. The thing is, that is partly the issue with infractions being taken out of context, it's probably hard for someone who doesn't know the inside jokes etc.. to make proper judgement. That is why we should be able to explain ourselves.

You can explain yourselves, but us mods don't see the TiBB staff return messages, so pm a mod or admin directly and it will get discussed in the towers if need be.

A great method would be:

"Did you really mean it when you told Marsh he has squinty eyes?"
"No, I was joking, he knows that"
"Well I got a report, it seems to have offended someone"
"Oh sorry, I'll delete it, I won't tell him he has squinty eyes any more"

Verus

Dear Jessica.,

You have received an infraction at ThisisBigBrother.com - UK TV Forums.

Reason: Completely nasty and rude comment about another member
-------
Quote:
Marsh has squinty eyes.
How dare you think you have a right to say a member has squinty eyes, there is no need at all for this nasty behaviour.
-------

If you have too many infractions you may receive a posting ban.

All the best,
ThisisBigBrother.com - UK TV Forums
