They are that's the topic of the thread isn't it? that many oppose it due to changing attitudes towards dogs as companions as opposed to food :/

People see dog pack psychology and confuse it with love (your dog does not love you). People see dogs panting and think they're smiling because of the shape their face makes (dogs do not smile).

People feel differently about dogs because PEOPLE have spent hundreds of years working with dogs and so, for companionship, naming them and humanising them. No other reason and nothing intrinsically "special" about dogs over other mammals.

See... Vegans I can understand. I'd never be one but I get it - they just disagree with killing for food. The morals behind it, whilst they are not mine, are logical. But anyone cries that eating a dog is "Evil" whilst tucking into a chicken & bacon wrap, I'm afraid, can't be described as anything but a hypocrite.

They're loyal until you stop feeding them, then a week later, they eat you. Dogs are evil. In WW3 after all of the farms are destroyed I'm going to set up a little stall selling dog burgers made of strays, and everyone will say "mmmm, Mmm oh TS, you make the best ever dog burgers, what is your secret??" and I will say "I use puppies because they are so soft and tender".

Yes, if you are outraged by this then you should be equally outraged by slaughter of all animals. We have domesticated dogs and have attachments to them as a society as a result of that, but that doesn't make it any more immoral than killing another kind of animal.

..I hadn't read or watched the vid because I thought that it would be too disturbing but this is not about whether dog meat is typically eaten in a China but about the festival and how the dogs are killed and that their killing and eating is 'celebrated'...?...I don't know how it got to WW3 because this is not eating to survive, it's about celebrating the slaughter of animals which I know is done in many customs/traditions but this festival has only been something since 1995 so it says in the article..so this is not a deep tradition or anything that they do this..and yeah, in China dogs are eaten and here we eat cows and we eat sheep and we eat pigs etc but it's not celebrated with a mass public slaughter and even in some cases, family pets 'taken'....

..I think that Yang Xiaoyun is amazing.....especially as well because she is an older person so could be more 'ruled' by things like traditions/customs etc but maybe it is actually because she's older that she has seen the 'change' in China through the years of dogs more and more becoming family pets and hoping for a whole attitude change toward them...sadly I don't think that's something that will happen quickly though even probably with the festival which is a very 'modern' thing...whatever the animal had been, I still think it would be wrong for a country to accept this 'slaughter celebration'...but because I'm sure that no one taking part feels that it's wrong, Yang is right...it's about appealing to the government to ban these things and also using social and any media to help do that...and of course, herself striving to influence.. let's hear it for the Yang....

Also for weddings, birthdays and christenings try my delicious rotating spit roasted dog served with salad in a pita bread. I call it "dogner kebab". Spectacular,

If anyones seen these videos horrific things happen to the dogs.

I saw one a few months ago on a shock site and the dogs were beaten with clubs while still alive to 'tenderize' their meat because these people believe it makes the meat taste different, the dogs then have their pelts/fur ripped off and while they are still alive they're cooked alive - that is evil I don't care what anyone says to treat an animal so badly is purely evil.

Another reason I disagree with this horrible festival is because there has been video evidence some of the dogs are someones pets, there were videos of dogs with collars on. I don't really care if it's frowned upon, if somebody stole my dog and hurt her I would want to kill them.

I've seen some of the videos too AJ, and they are sickening, I totally agree. In fact I agree with everything you've said here. I've seen video footage of dogs being skinned alive then thrown in a sickening pile to die in agony, and that's not the half of it. Equating eating dogs to eating farm-reared animals is lunacy. I'm surprised people see so much humour in this subject.
