The covo I just had with my mum
"You do know you can tell me anything" Me: "well I have now" "Yes but anything, you know by now I'm a very open minded person." Me: "Even if I've murdrered someone" "Yes anything" Me: "Have you ever been a lesbian before" My mum gives a smirky smile and walks off. Last edited by Will.; 23-07-2015 at 10:40 AM. |

Well done
I wish I would pluck up the courage to tell my mum but I find it way too much of an awful scary idea (I know she would accept it and stuff but I'd struggle to be able to tell her) Anyway, your a year older then me so who knows maybe this time next year.

Good for you!
![]() I'm 19 and have known I'm gay for quite a while now, I still haven't come out to my family though. I was thinking of doing it before I go to uni. I just hope it lifts a weight off my shoulders like others say it does. I know I have accepting parents, but I hope it gives me confidence afterwards. It's a pretty big deal. |

No I don't think so at all a girl in my year came out as lesbian at thirteen and she pretty much just got accepted by everyone. I'm just nervous to tell my mum because even though I know she'll accept me it's just almost as if I can't get the words out.

It's good that your comfortable with it at such an age though, there are probably tons of people trying to conceal who they really are, and even end up taking it to the grave with them. |

Though I have to say, I'm uncomfortable with being straight because I knew at such at an early age that it was something I had to keep secret and still do. I'm 24 now and never really 'came out' as straight, although if people ask I say I am but I still feel uncomfortable with it now... I was meant to be gay I think

![]() There is still a stigma surrounding homosexuality, and sadly it's different for gay people in the fact that a lot of people try to hide it in fear of many things. Not being accepted by family/friends, retaining masculinity/femininity, etc. I'd imagine there are loads of people who have convinced themselves otherwise that they really believe they're not Gay/Bi/Lesbian, but that's the world we live in. There's still a long way to go in terms of acceptance. |

It takes a lot of guts to come out at any age, but even more so at a young age I feel, I'm 20 and I still haven't told my family, even though I'm pretty sure they know.

Well done Will!
![]() Glad to hear it went well, as I can imagine it being quite a hard thing to do. Your mum sounds very supportive too, which is great. |
