turn them off or kick them out of class....if it keeps happening 1 warning, then expel.....teachers can utilise technology at their discretion to teach the kids not the other way around , theres compuers everywhere to access information when necessary. the teachers can if they so wish allow kids to access their phones if and when they deem it beneficial to the subject being taight, otherwise and be gone

Or get a signal blocker for the school, and turn it off at interval and lunch time. Very simple solution. Of course they wouldn't do that, because then the teachers wouldn't be able to sit posting on facebook...

Being expelled for using a phone in school is ridiculous. I fiend detention a far too harsh punishment for it. Expell is for threatening and physical and mental violence.
Times have changed education is moving on schools aren't throwing expells left right and centre and phones can be a good way for learning

No phones out of the school bag.
We all managed to survive without them.
Make it a golden rule and suspend the beggars that break it, to expel them seems a tad harsh.

Even then I think that's harsh because some lessons let us use them, eg. as a timer in science.

NO you kids learn the New Rule

It's silly and archaic. Any teacher would have had a game of it if they tried to take my phone off me. I wouldn't trust the school to keep it safe.

Phones should be used in classes as they can be wonderful tools for learning. The only rules rearding phones that should be in place is that they should be on silent in lessons, you can't call or text anyone in class unless it's an emergency and phones shouldn't be present in exams. Anything else is pointless.

...yeah, pretty much this which is pretty much the rule in many schools atm anyway..I reckon it's all just silly OFSTED stuff to think about banning them.../which I doubt would happen...

Just because it's a rule doesn't mean it has to be that way.

You're just stating the Sam etching over and over again andnneverbgiving any facts to back up your point despite many being used in the opposing view
As a person who is currently in school, I can say they bring much more positive than negative education wise

The main downside of a phone goinf off in class in it takes 10 seconds of concentration or teaching time away. So checking everyone's phone, which takes 10 timees the amount of time, is a sufficent way of avoiding those consequences

Oh god what BRATS they are, you know just kill them all, kill all kids taht way there will be 0 chance of any phones going off in class

I can't believe these devices are not already banned in all classrooms. They are so distracting and completely unnecessary in a classroom or lecture theatre .

Ban them in all schools in UK

I've never heard anything about this rule.

In the school I work in, students are allowed phones, but they must be turned off and not used in the classrooms during lessons or inside the school buildings. You're only allowed to use a phone on school grounds and on the field like during break times and lunch times, if that makes sense. Although, I've noticed some teachers allow students to use their phones for research or to take a picture of the homework on the board at the end of the lesson, instead of copying it down, things like that. If a student is caught using a phone in class or it goes off during a lesson, then the student must hand it to a teacher and the phone is confiscated till the end of the lesson. Some really strict teachers keep the phone and hand it to the HOY and the students parents must pick it up for them. It was the same when I was in school ten years ago. But whenever a phone goes off in one my lessons, I just ask who's phone was ringing and tell them to turn it off. I don't do confiscations, cause I cba for it really. Being expelled seems like an OTT rule though. Confiscations and sanctions fair enough, but being kicked out for it is surely taking the piss.

.....I work in a Primary school, Arista...many of the children don't have mobiles and with the ones who do..?..they generally only bring them to school if they're going home alone ...but mobiles in Upper schools are a good learning asset in classrooms and I think should stay right where they are...
