Not sure, but I'm so glad she did! Even though it was under circumstance, I'm glad it exposed her as a classy kind person! So I do think she should have won whether it happened or not.

Of course she would have won.

ASK YOURSELF. DO YOU FEEL SORRY FOR SHILPA?

OR

DO YOU FEEL SORRY FOR JADE

ITS JADE WHO LEAVES WITH THE SYMPATHY

I think the bullying fiasco did bring out a lot more of Shilpa's amazing character, so yes I can see why it would've made a difference.
But at the same time that's certainly not the sole reason for her winning.

As much as I like her I don't think she would have as alot of people hated her before Jade came in as they found her arrogant and were jealous of her beauty. I think there is NO way she would have won if Jade hadn't entered the house and bullied her.

Default ...What \"Sympathy\" means

It was not sympathy,Sympathy is given too somone who lays down and takes a beating and cant stick up for themselves.

Shilpa proved not a victim, she handeled the whole bullying without breaking, she kept her grace and kindness.

She did not look for sympathy, and she did not need it,she stayed strong and kind.THATS WHY SHE WON.

Well said psylocke.

People will keep going on about a sympathy vote purely because they don't like her and will try and detract from her win by just putting it down to sympathy rather than people actually really like her in her own right for being a really fun and dignified lady.

Shilpa would never have won without the sympathy vote generated by the whole bullying issue.

There was such a massive outpouring of sympathy and outrage for her cos of the treatment she received in the house. The UK public watching it, watching other brits act in that way towards her, started to feel uncomfortable and embarressed watching it, and even started to feel a little guilty at the way this woman was being treated by fellow brits, this woman who was a visitor in our country.

It meant that keeping Shilpa in and having her win became more than just who was going to win BB. It became a way the public could direct their outrage, and ease their akwardness and guilt at what they saw. It let the public clear it's collective conscience.

The final night vote became a way for the UK to let Shilpa know that we're not a nation of racists, that bullying isn't tolerated and that they were all on her side the whole way through it. A vote for Shilpa was more than just a vote for a celeb to win BB, a vote for Shilpa showed that you were against bullying and racism.

Commendable motives if a little deluded, but without these votes she never would have won.

Default situations bring out character

This is for those of you out there who are saying that Shilpa has won on a "sympathy vote" . This is a lame excuse and cover up for your petty jealousies and insecurities. Face it. The girl has character. It takes a situation to bring out character and big brother is an amalgamation of specific situations which cause reactions and inner felings to emerge. Shilpa Shetty's character has shone in the midst of a series of adverse situations that arose in the house. For those of you out there who think that character can be seperated from life's many situations, think again. Please think and stop sounding like automated dum dums.

Welcome to the forum.

I agree, and obviously a lot of others do too seeing as Shilpa won.

I completely agree! It's stupid to say she wouldn't have won if she wasn't under those situations.

People wouldn't have voted for her if they didn't like her!!! So whether it was sympathy or not.. people liked her for her beautiful and kind character.. and that's the whole point of the show!

How do you know, though?

(I think it's as much to do with how she dealt with the bullying btw rather than sympathy)

Not necessarily sympathy but without the whole Jade situation she would have been crowd meat.

Obviously I can't know for sure, same as those saying she didn't win cos of the bullying thing can't know that for sure either. I can only really guess based on the evidence and put forward the reasons for why I think she wouldn't have won normally.

I think I have a point, some of the posts on here tonight suggest that Shilpa winning was not just a great thing for her but was some kind of vindication for the british nation.
