As a black person myself I can't comprehend why natalie reacted that way. The only thing that comes to mind is she wants airtime. If white people refused to talk about any black people whilst I was in the room Id be more offended than someone complementing the work of a selfless carer.

Yes. But black people are not allowed to think it's touchy. We're suppose to act proper at all times and then maybe, people will try to understand where the touchiness comes from. Otherwise you're just playing the race card. The very people that caused it expect the people that were hurt by it to be in charge of fixing it, but accordingly.

I think what she was trying to say from what I heard was that a carer abused her elderly mother and because the carer was black the place her mother was in put on her mother's file that she had a problem with black people when in fact she didn't, just people who slap her. I think she muffed the explanation a bit and Natalie didn't hear it all and overreacted.

I live in the southern state of Georgia in the U.S., so I know racism pretty well..Nothing that was said in that conversation was either overtly or subliminally racist..

..I find it really difficult to say with these conversations because we don't hear the entirety of them and the context of how racism was being discussed in the first place, for Jayne to say what she did about her mum's carer...I do like Jayne but was there justification to refer to that as well in a conversation with really, what are total strangers..?..I mean, was that a sensitive thing to do either..?..I know that she was obviously talking about something that was a negative experience with her mum, which specifically relates to 'a race experience' in her eyes or in her mum's eyes..when really the main focus of it should have been the cruelty by the carer, not her race etc...although I do realise why it became a race thing, if her mum had been accused of racism...but it was still bringing it up in quite a negative way..which Natalie may have over-reacted to a bit...but in her over-reaction, she was probably drawing from personal life experiences as well...of people saying 'a black person'..rather than just 'a person'...

The group were discussing racism. We saw the conversation, Jayne explained that her mother was labeled as racist of sorts because a black carer had abused her. If they had been talking about being a carer and Jayne had randomly come out with it I'd understand why Natalie was upset but it wasn't.

Natalie is very devious I think and she was very calculated in what she did last night.

...hmmm, I guess that is (hopefully..)..what will evolve through the show and through time...I have to say that my first instinct was leaning toward 'devious' as well possibly..but I'm not sure now, I think it could also be things that she's been terribly hurt by in the past or offensive things and prejudices felt, etc...and her focus just zooming in on that part of what Jayne said...so causing her reaction to be what it was..?..that would be completely understandable as well...

Yeah, I'd agree with this, although I think it is a mixture of those feelings and also milking it for airtime. She was pretty horrible to Jayne when she tried to explain things to her. The woman is nasty and over the top defensive. I can't take to her at all.

Yes, it would be interesting to know, but fat chance of that with Natalie, she just screeches and yells and it's just white noise (and you prob know by now that I can't stand screechers) When Jayne apologised and tried to explain the context, that would have been the time for Natalie to explain why she felt defensive and reacted the way she did or at least accept the apology gracefully. Instead Natalie just didn't want to know and insulted Jayne which was pretty lousy of her.
Seems to me she was determined to stay offended at all costs - there is a lot more mileage there...
