Legally....if you work over 6 hours you are meant to have minimum 20 minutes break.

Leaving your wages in a box in the store room is moronic

They're trying to dodge taxes and legal fees by paying you cash in hand (at an illegal wage) so the least they can do is give you what you worked for. Please don't turn up to work if you haven't received this by your next shift. Also, look for a better job

^ to be fair, £4.05 is the minimum wage for people under 18, that's not illegal

i'm under 21 and i only get paid £5.60

paying by cash left in the store room is dodgy tho

A couple of things to note

1. he needs to talk to his accountant about 35 quid? - sounds like he cant afford to pay you. His ""accountant" will at best do a few hours work for him once a year at most. So that is a bare face lie.

2. Dont moan about working in a bloody shop for 8 hours. SO what you got a small break, what else do you need, you are not doing physical work and if you got an hour what would you do with it once you had eaten save going on your phone? If you are already moaning about working for a living at your age you wont amount to to much. Just get on with it and make the most of the opportunity and if you dont like the work go and find another job, plenty around.

If the wages were stolen then he will just have to pay you from his own wallet. If he does not, leave.

Keep a income at all times
That's YOUR CASH

great advice arista - that's right - line something up before you jump ship. also I would put it in writing about how the pay is paid ie left in a envelope with other workers able to access this - this is not acceptable and must break confidential and private information rules of the business - speak to pay rule office.

if this fails - tell them the hog will write you a love of his life poem - that should do the trick.

Your breaks should be longer.

If you aren't paying tax and insurance you are working there illegally so i'm willing to bet you aren't insured for working in there either, very risky, I would find something asap and get out.

Middle girl LT is working 2 shifts a day in the local pub, running a lucrative babysitting racket locally and looking after 2 horses in between for cash money. She is raking in that dollar. Good girl.

Mind you she just messaged me to buy her wellies

I'm moaning because it's ridiculous? It's literally so stressful. I make at least 100 breakfasts a shift/sometimes bordering on 150. I need to be able to give myself time to think and relax because sometimes I burn out mid shift because I'm never off my feet rushing around. I'm pretty sure I'll be fine working at somewhere what's run legally thanks.

I was thinking this as well, it's risky because it's in a cafe what's basically a shambles, one of the girls who work with me really badly burned herself the other week when I was away apparently getting the beans out the Bain Marie.

I'd mention to your employer that the Employment Tribunal has just been declared free to those who want to sue an employer over money not received and add that they will be very interested at said tribunal that you are are earning just over £4.00 an hour which isn't legal. I expect your money will be found fairly quickly. Look for another job, they are taking the piss out of you.

He wouldn't be paying tax and insurance on such a small amount anyway. You have to earn around 9k before you have to pay tax.
