I assume the issue is with people saying things that are gender-specific, eg: "boys don't cry", "dolls are for girls", "boys will be boys", "stop acting like such a girl" etc. Which I do think should be avoided... but obviously avoiding a person's sex altogether is a little bit silly and I don't think is going to pave the way to a happy and problem-free trans childhood.

No, its more to do with teachers referring to pupils as boys or girls.

Ms Devon said: “If your narrative is saying girls don’t get angry, or boys don’t cry, or girls aren’t allowed to do this, or boys aren’t allowed to do this, then that is potentially going to have an impact on your well-being.

“So I hope that in taking away the negative stereotypes associated with gender, we can ultimately improve their mental health.”

She warned teachers it was best to avoid gendered terms because there could be transgender pupils in the classroom.

Ms Devon added: “There are some schools I go into that are single-sex schools, but there are transgender students in the year.
Half right. But it seems the issue is with calling girls girls...and boys boys aswell as the stereotypes associated with these biological facts

https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/88...-Natasha-Devon

What I find interesting about her view, is that she is entirely correct in stating that sex stereotypes are utter bollocks. But then goes onto say

Quote:
“You can’t presume that because somebody presents as a gender that that’s what they are.”
What is 'presenting' as a gender, if not stereotypes in itself?

Breaking down sex stereotypes as much as possible will help a hell of a lot of people, and could very well slow the current social contagion that is children saying they are transgender (and then being shoved onto chemo drugs because of this ). But to say in the next breath that someone 'presenting' as the opposite sex makes someone 'trans' rather than just, for example, a boy in a dress who has long hair...well its just reinforcing the stereotypes even more to me. And wanting to break down sex stereotypes, does not mean we should pretend sex does not exist in the first place.

I actually thought this thread was going to be about the teacher who was suspended last week for referring to a 'transboy' who was in a group with other females...calling the group 'girls.

This explains alot :

A SACKED children's mental health tsar

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/497120...guage-schools/

although, now I read the whole thing I think the thread is a bit misleading, she doesn't say ban those term outright, Shauns point was right

Responding to negative reactions about her comments, Natasha said: "I didn’t advocate ‘banning’ the terms ‘boy’ and ‘girl’.

Didn't read the sun link because..well the sun I tend to not click if there is an alternative. Have clicked it now just incase it was about the religious guy last week instead...and it seems when pressed further on the issues, she seems to have problems with stereotypes, but is also happy to invoke stereotypes in deciding that a kid is trans rather than their actual sex.

Girls and boys are perfectly fine to use.

Saying things such as 'boys don't cry' or 'you must be a girl as boys don't wear dresses' or 'you are a boy because you like playing with trucks instead of dolls'...and so on, is the problem. Not the use of the terms him/her/boy/girl in themselves. Its just enforcing 'gender' all the more when everyone should be working to smash it, tbh.

I really thought we had got over the boys toys and girls toys at least a generation ago.
Both my kids had a good selection of all toys. Tea sets for both, train sets for both etc.
Cuddly toys and teddybears for all.
