It was on the news earlier that the Film franchise have had to come out and make a statement after multiple calls for a female Bond. First I've heard of these "calls" but googled it and this article came up.

However, it does seem like the Bond franchise is evolving regarding its callous treatment of women overall. Ana de Armas, who plays new character Paloma in the upcoming No Time to Die, has said the latest installment is “another step toward giving women a more powerful and strong place in the films.” There were rumors that costar Lashana Lynch was being set up as the next Bond, but the trailer revealed that she’s actually playing a 00 agent in her own right who can more than keep up with Bond.

Plus, Fleabag auteur Phoebe Waller-Bridge was brought on to the writing team, saying explicitly that her focus was on making sure the franchise “treats the women properly.”
