This is just about barely 10 years since the crimes of Saville came out.
Some of the victims were children in Hospital.

It's way too soon in my view.
Far too early to bring any of it up in the name of entertainment.

Or the Nightstalker or the Rochdale grooming gang or countless other dramas based on real events

There's that as well which I hadn't even thought of. I find this abhorrent in general but it being made by the BBC is just on another level really isn't it. They knew what he was.

Yeah that's true, they're not going to hang themselves out to dry, are they?

If BBC staff are featured in it finding out about his crimes, be prepared for lots of " mg: mg: ", instead of the more accurate "Oh jeez this is all coming out is it". He clearly had power and influence, and what he was up to was quite clearly an open secret.

Did John Lyndon get banned from the BBC for trying to speak out against Jimmy Saville in the 70's?

the more i think about this, the worse it gets. The BBC will be selling this drama world wide as they always do. So they are in effect profiting from a predator that they enabled for decades

Wasn't the Rochdale drama all about the families and the girls themselves?

This seems like a "See Steve Coogan play Saville" type drama, that's going to hell HIS story from HIS perspective.

There is maybe a room for some kind of dramatisation of what happened, but this doesn't sound like the one that should be made. Maybe if we were further in the future, but it's still way too close. And, as already said, made by the company that covered up a hell of a lot for him it's not going to be an unbiased or truthful take on events.

We will have to wait and see how this is handled, I think the BBC are right to take this on particularly given their culpability

Maybe it will help the victims in that their voices will finally be heard

We had dramas about Myra Hindley and Ian Brady and Fred and Rose West so its not exactly a new concept

Alan Partridge star Coogan said: “To play Jimmy Savile was not a decision I took lightly.

“Neil McKay has written an intelligent script tackling sensitively a horrific story which, however harrowing, needs to be told.”

The makers of the programme were “working closely with many people whose lives were impacted by Savile to ensure their stories are told with sensitivity and respect”, the BBC said in a statement.

That is a very good point. Personally I think enough time has passed if it was handled sensitively... but not by the BBC.

This for me as well basically. I personally think we could do without full dramatisations of things like 9/11 as well but, at the very least, I don't imagine that there are any that are character dramas about the hijackers themselves and that's the difference.

Again, I personally feel if something like this is being done, it's one thing to have an in-depth documentary series with dramatised/acted out sections (as is quite common in documentaries these days) but turning it into a full drama series is something quite different.

So no... I honestly don't think they're necessary. That goes for other similar series' that have been made in the past. The dramatisation of the Shannon Matthews story was ****ing gross too, made by the BBC, and I imagine this will be along the same lines.

It’s a difficult one….any dramatisation of real life crime/murder/abuse is a sensitive issue more so when it involves children. However I recently watched Steve coogan’s portrayal in Stephen very sensitively acted and I don’t think anyone would take on the role without the knowledge that it was told in a respectful way as we all are aware of the coverup that took place.
