Male MPs can stand if they wish to and can get the numbers to back them that are needed. No men have as yet put themselves forward. Maybe however they're looking at a possible future bigger contest for leader. |

I'm unlikely to return too if they carry on with the increasing the points level for PIP as to welfare. So I won't have a vote in this Deputy leadership ballot. However I agree that it's preferable it's a female. The media would have a great time claiming Labour were anti women if it wasn't. If I had a vote though, then I'd probably be casting it for Emily or Bridget. I don't see it as a stitch up at all however. Because I'm not sure who the Unions would support or if they'd all get the 80 MPs backing needed too. |

That's nonsense. Oh dont apologise, you still thought I was a member. It gave me no pleasure to step back. I've been a member for 12 years but I can't support severe changes to disability benefits and support. That's what turned me against the LibDems when they supported the heartless Conservative changes to DLA and the testing of claimants. I wanted this government to do a reasonable job, it may yet be that they do in years to come to 2029. However they'd have to protect the vulnerable, sick and disabled for me to return. Bridget actually is more formidable than opponents think she is, she could turn out to be a good choice in my view. IF, she were to win which I wouldn't think a certainty. However I'm not married and have no children so not affected by education issues. However my family who have children in schooling, have no real moans about her efforts so far. The last lot were a mess on education, in fact I've always wished education was out of party politics, that an agreed consensus on education policy should be in place so there's no messing about with it when governments change as to Parties. It is all about the future of children after all Last edited by joeysteele; 09-09-2025 at 04:34 PM. |

from a general public perspective, i don't think anyone cares who gets the deputy position. It's not going to change any policy directions. What we see is what we've got

Starmer must have offered her some role and she is now backing Liz Kendall...
