No but it does in the Big Brother section and it is them that suffers from a lot of the short posts which not make for a good debate.

Chat and games is just that and you would expect a lot of short quick chat posts there.

Maybe some sort of new penalty system should be introduced to target rubbish threads and if you get below a certian number then you get punished.

but how would you disguinish between pointless posts and useful ones? People would be arguing with Mods and saying 'its my opinion, not yours, i can write what i like' it would cause too much Hassle for Mods

I think it would be at the admin and mods descression if they think that the thread is pointless or not.

I can't remember where they count or not now. None of the chat and games section count or it's subsections.

To answer Benji, it shouldn't be needed really every post should be useful in someway and move things forward just like you are doing now. You just have to add a bit of information that moves things on. You are very good at it. You are doing it now.

As for the penalty system there is one and it's called the karma system. How it is meant to work is you give karma for good posts and take it away for poor ones. If it was used correctly then it would encourage good posting. Thing is people use it badly and the system has become pointless. What they do is give karma to there friends and take it away from people that have views they don't agree with. The quality of posts element of the karma system has been lost.

The Karma system failed before it started, it was obvious that now the whole idea is lost. It's just a campaign now, people are advertising them at all the time.

they are - your correct, Maybe the admin should come up with a different method of awarding people.

This could have been a task on The Apprentice.

That is why a lot of people have turned it off now.

In principle it was a great idea but once it was used badly the whole idea was sunk. Some people got massively negative karma and became unhappy with the site. I know some of those people were really upset and felt like leaving.

Maybe the karma system should only be able to be changed my mods and admins according to good or bad posts. All users would have to have it displayed but other 'normal' members wouldn't be able to change it.

The karma system just need to be used correctly Benji sent me a good idea which I will mention in the Admin section, known as the TiBB towers, and I know Sticks has come up with some good idea's to in the past. Maybe this is a subject that we need to revisit.

It had been interesting since this subject has been brought up that there has been some improvement in the quality of peoples posts on the site. Especially while we were discussing the subject. Maybe we can all do our bit and when people just say I love housemate X we can ask them why. Lets get people thinking about what they post and get them to think a bit more. It would make the site so much better.

5,000 quality posts are worth so much more than 5,000 rubbish ones.

I think a few aspects of the forum could do with re-visiting. I think that one of the re-visited things should be banned members. Pisshead overstepped the mark, but I think eager posters like Linda should be allowed back on. Maybe perminantly banned members should only be banned for something like 3 months depending on their quality of posts and general attitude towards things before they were banned.

I know what you mean and we have discussed possible changes to the warning system that allow member to have warnings revoked for good behavior, but there is only so much time we have to spare for the site and most of that is spent checking the threads and reading posts. We don't have endless time to rewrite the software the site is based around and make endless modifications. I wish we could sometimes to make life easier for the members, the moderators and the admin team.

I know what you mean about established posters like Linda, but others on 3 warnings who are equally as established have managed to tow the line. People with 3 warnings do get an cetian amount of freedom to break the rules before we act. We tend to warn the in threads or by U2U.

We don't ban people without thought. For example it was over a week before we as a team decided what to do when we banned Linda and Nodis. They was a lot of discussion about it. The same is true of any long standing member we ban. It happened with SMC and other members. In fact in a lot cases someone will try and council these long standing members. This happened with SMC.

I think you have to understand we need some kind of ultimate sanction. Some form final punishment and without it we would lose control. The members that are banned have normally crossed the line once too often or pushed the rules to far.

The loss of any quality poster, even if you don't like their views is a great loss. You need the people you disagree with to make a good debate. But also what you need is a mutual respect and understanding of that person and a feel for the quality of that persons posts.
