Hollyoaks star Bronagh Waugh has revealed that viewers will soon see an "ambitious" and "determined" side to her character Cheryl Brady as she decides to start university.

Cheryl is about to announce plans to get back into education, sharing the news with her brother Brendan (Emmett Scanlan) and best friend Lynsey Nolan (Karen Hassan) later this month.

Waugh told All About Soap: "Cheryl wants to take some control back in her life. She's very ambitious and doing a degree is something that she feels very passionate about. Cheryl thinks it's a great idea, but Brendan is a bit mean and mocks her decision.

"I don't think he's trying to be nasty, but it just makes Cheryl all the more determined to prove him wrong."

Asked which course Cheryl wants to study, the actress replied: "Business and marketing, which is pretty ironic given Cheryl's track record with money! I'd love for her to do well, though. She could be like Elle in Legally Blonde, swanning into uni wearing silly little outfits and amazing everyone with her intellect!

"I think she'll be a bit scared initially, but will then throw herself into uni ways head first."

This sounds like a good storyline, with the potential for some comedy thrown in, and showing more of Cheryl's personality too She'll make a good mature student and I can see her acting as mother hen to one or two of the others as well.

Hollyoaks is still inconsistent, sometimes there is a big rise in quality on screen then it goes back to a lull and the aftermath of storylines have been disappointing and of course characters random personality transplants.

The writing has improved but I hope there continue to be changes behind the scenes to do with it and.

I think so too and there has to be more to this as Kieron Richardson did say that Bronagh was very busy with her storyline in his recent interview and i'm so glad Cheryl has got her own storyline at last...

Hopefully Emma Smithwick will implement some positive changes and cull the cast a bit as well, would be awful to go downhill after the great storylines of the past 12 month.

It's too big and she did say that they are trying to keep it settled now but there needs to be a cull of some sort..

I still have hope of a new bad girl coming into the show as it is not fair with a few of these bad boys around.

The new girl, who kissed Texas, name slips my mind atm, she could possibly be a bad girl, Ash has potential as well, think she's gearing up to take Brendan on.

I am sure Riley will return with Bobby during Mercedes' prostitute storyline. Ricky isn't in the titles and he is still around.

Cindy has no money left and didn't pay Carmel's wages so the girls decided to go crazy in the spa and then started the catfights/bitching...

No money left? Just like Roxy in Eastenders. It's ridiculous that they expect you to believe they can just run out of money when you're a millionaire.
a) anyone with half a brain doesn't just spend without keeping a control on your expenditure.
b) they own businesses and property that should be earning them money too. And would no doubt own a tonne of expensive stuff that could be sold off if money was short.

But, I did feel sorry for Cindy at the end there.

Hollyoaks mustered 1.11m (4.9%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Cindy got her comeuppance, while 617k (2.6%) tuned in for E4's first look at 7pm to see Cindy's woes develop further.
