Liverpool could be bought by a Chinese business tycoon within days, according to a source close to the deal.

Kenny Huang, head of Hong Kong-based investment company QSL Sports Ltd, wants to take full control of the Reds, who have been up for sale since April.

"A deal has to be done before the transfer window closes [on 31 August]," a source close to Huang told BBC Sport.

"Huang has made a firm proposal. The club's board has to sanction the sale and it could be sewn up in days."

However, he wants the deal to be completed within two weeks to allow Hodgson time to strengthen the squad before the transfer deadline at the end of August. Any later and the deal is off.

Huang is offering to clear Liverpool's debt to RBS

The tycoon also plans to build the club a new stadium as soon as possible.

Huang is a well-known figure in the Chinese sporting industry and particularly influential in basketball and baseball.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...ol/8876510.stm

Good old Kenny Huang, let's hope he buys us so we can go on a spending spree.

Yesterday.. Carlisle 1-0 Hibs

Not that many are going to be interested but i'm a Hibby and took me 2 hours to get there by train, got escorted by the police from the station to the Griffen, then after held back by the police, they had the dogs etc out and it took me 40 minutes to get back to the station from the stadium then they told us we had to wait on the next train cause there was too many of us, which didn't come to an hour later.

Don't think i'll be going back to Carlisle for a long time, was a complete shambles.

Aaron Ramsey could return in an Arsenal shirt sooner than expected as Arsene Wenger confirms he has started light running. The Welshman who broke his leg at the Britannia Stadium is recovering better than expected, after being told he would face a minimum of a year out on the sidelines. The Arsenal boss hinted a return to action in November is on the cards, nine months after the horrendous injury in February.

Arsene Wenger has remained tight-lipped about speculation over signing Per Mertesacker. The German defender has been repeatedly linked to the Gunners, as they search for replacements for William Gallas, Sol Campbell and Mikael Silvestre. Wenger has already signed Laurent Koscielny and the Germany defender and Christian Zapata are on the Frenchman’s radar.

Arsenal target Cristian Zapata is dreaming of a move to England, according to the Udinese centre-back's agent.

"I don't know what will happen this summer, it's still unclear," Massimo Italiani was quoted as saying by the Daily Star.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has refused to comment on reported interest in Germany centre-back Per Mertesacker .

Speaking to reporters after Sunday's Emirates Cup final victory over Celtic, Wenger said he was "not close to signing anybody."

Asked about Mertesacker, he said: "I wouldn't like to comment on names because it raises the price straight away 50 per cent."

Barcelona have lined up Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta as a fallback plan should they fail to land Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas , according to AS.

Arteta has said he wants to stay at Everton and is currently negotiating with Toffees chiefs over a new contract.

Reports indicate Everton are willing to make the Spaniard the club's best ever paid player on Ł75,000-a-week.

But Barcelona could throw a spanner in the works.
- Wow this would be a big step up and might actually get an international cap, but cant see it happening.

Goalkeeper Manuel Almunia insists he still has a future at Arsenal and says he doesn't have to convince anybody about his ability.

"I don't need to convince anybody, I just do my job," Almunia told Sky Sports."I have a couple more years on my contract and that's it, I'm an Arsenal player."

Almunia has been linked with a move to La Liga after apparently falling out of favour with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed why he's decided against signing a new defensive midfielder.

Wenger admits the performances of Jack Wilshere and Emmanuel Frimpong have changed his thinking.

He said: "At the start of the pre-season I was not convinced Wilshere and Frimpong were defensive midfielders. We were considering going into the market for a midfielder - but we will not do that now."

Arsenal appear to have lost out on Juventus playmaker Sebastian Giovinco .

According to Tutto Mercato, the player told friends he has agreed terms with Parma.

The Italian Web site said that the two Serie A clubs are close to a transfer deal, with merely some fine points of the agreement to be finalized.

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres says he is "committed to the club and fans" and is "looking forward to working with new Reds manager Roy Hodgson".

Torres, 26, had been linked to Chelsea and Manchester City ever since the club failed to qualify for this season's Champions League.

"I am looking forward to the challenge ahead," Torres told the club's website.

"My commitment and loyalty to the club and to the fans is the same as it was on my first day when I signed."

The Spain international returned to training on Monday after helping his nation win the World Cup in South Africa in July.
