Having said that, if the Con/Libdem coalition is a non starter, even the labour and libdem votes put together doesn't give them a majority, so at least two other parties would need to be on board to give an overall majority. In that case I would prefer to see another General Election as soon as possible.
Thems the rules though, because no majority was reached, the standing PM can stay in power until the minority winning party can gain enough support to claim a majority, through brokering deals etc, a vote of no confidence in the house itself, or he decides his position is untenable and steps down.

Loved the interview on Sky with the two girls who said David Cameron shouldnt get into number 10 because 63% of the vote was against him.... Derrrrrr, doesnt that arguement then extend itself to the Lib Dems in that 77% voted against them.

One quote from them was if we had proportional representation we wouldnt have a hung parliament again, errr if we go PR this sort of power brokering and meetings behind closed doors will be the future of british Politics.Think they just liked the words Proportional representation without knowing the meaning. Dullards.

According to the constitution, Mr Clegg should be talking to Mr Brown first as he is the sitting Prime Minister, not the pretender.

The sitting Prime Minister has the first attempt at trying to form a government, so Mr Clegg should have been talking to Mr Brown first. The fact the conservatives got the most seats is irrelevant, that is the constitution of this country whether you like it or not.

You tamper with the constitution at your peril.

Errr no he shouldnt, a lib lab coalition still wouldnt reach a majority, therefore the actual election winner and him were right to approach each other. There is no requirement to approach the sitting PM in order to support them. Political alliances are generally made through two sides having closer policies.

yeah I said this yesterday but I think he new he had a poor chance of winning over all the independents etc .... and even if he did it'd be a pretty tenuous coalition to keep together. New election in 12 months I say. Bump Brown and Labor can take those posh nosh eaters.

Then constitutionally Brown is in the wrong as well.

Mr Brown is duty bound by the constitution to see if he can form a government first, if not then he must go to the Queen and resign so she can invite the leader of the opposition to the palace to form a government. That is the constitution. Mr Brown saying he was giving Cameron and Clegg a chance to see if they can come to an accommodation is a dereliction of duty under of our constitution.

As sitting prime minister he should be trying to form a government first or resign.

I've made more points in the last 2 days than you have in 12 months troll boy.
You disagree than that the cons voted for the war in Iraq?. That will be a quick debate. Maybe in all this trolling your trying to say that the cons see their relationship with the US as LESS important than that which they have with the UK and so WOULD NOT have bent over backwards for Bush had they been in power? Good luck with that argument too. Dude exactly what are you struggling to say?. (Take a deep breath before typing.) :P
