EastEnders returnees Kat and Alfie Moon will regain Walford's local watering hole The Queen Victoria on their return to the Square.

The show favourites - played by Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie - are expected to make their screen comeback at around the time of the Queen Vic fire.

According to The Mirror, the deliberate blaze - which is also thought to tie in with Barbara Windsor's departure from the soap as Peggy Mitchell - leaves the pub as nothing more than a mere shell and Alfie's first order of business is to rebuild the place from the ground up.

Kat, meanwhile, allegedly reprises her role behind the bar as landlady.

A show source said: "Alfie has big plans for the pub. He managed it for The Duchess for a while when he first arrived in Walford - so he'll soon be back where he belongs with Kat by his side."

They added: "Even though the fire completely guts the place, the bronze bust is one of the only items to survive - it'll still be in pride of place when The Vic reopens."

Show bosses are remaining tight-lipped about their return but a spokesperson said: "We're looking forward to the return of Kat and Alfie later this year."

Kat and Alfie were last seen in Walford on Christmas Day 2005 when they drove off into the sunset together in their Ford Capri bound for America.

Wallace is currently filming in Manchester for BBC Four's docu-drama based on Coronation Street's 'origins'.

Yay at Kat and Alfie getting the Vic again! They are the perfect pair to run the Vic. Punters love them and both such good characters. I hope Mo moves into the Vic as well then because otherwise she'll be on her own in the Slater house.

Yeah I hope Mo has her own storyline too. She's so under rated and under used on the show, her scenes with Stacey yesterday shows that she is capable of her own storyline.

I expect that Roxy will just want to sell the Vic once it's been burnt because it'll be worthless and she's not the type to just rebuild the pub. She's never seem that bothered to me that she owns the Vic where as Peggy will be devasated when it's destroyed I just think Roxy will see it from a business point of view and will want to get it off her hands asap.

Yeah that's a bit of a shame because I liked their relationship back in 2005 and she seemed like a mother figure to Stacey. She certainly looked up to Kat (i.e. wearing leapord print clothes like Kat) and I would have liked to have seen scenes with them two. I'm just glad she's coming back, I've really missed her and Alfie. She will look really different skinny though.

I really enjoyed this weeks episodes, all the brilliant EE drama as usual but there were lots of funny moments too.

Patrick goes off the rails but is pulled back by Lucas, in the final visit of the week to the London Borough of Walford, but Roxy and Ronnie finally let Glenda in.

I think that Minty dying in the fire saving Peggy would make sense due to his connections to the Mitchells.. however it may be a dramatic exit for the character and actor, at the same I feel because Cliff has been with the show for quite a while now and has been very loyal that his character deserves a happy exit like Garry got.

Denise being presumed dead is definetly a red herring.

Yeah Minty has always been close to the Mitchells and I can see Sam being involved in the fire, maybe even trapped inside when it happens and obviously he's always loved Sam so he would try and save her and die.

So sad they are leaving just when they are getting bigger parts in storylines.

But amazing episodes, and I must say I think people should of been speaking more about the whole thing?
Rather than just forgetting about it, I mean usually when somthing like a dead body happens in EE everyone is buzzing.
This time no one really cares which is a shame.
