Deaths figure is "encouraging" - it's potentially not actually down, but this mitigates a good chunk of the large rise yesterday if you average out over the two days. If it had been up again today that would have been a very bad sign.

deaths are important but not as important as hospitalisation, ventilator/ICU numbers, especially the rise in ventilator is quite worrying

it really shocks me to see UK with these bad figures all because of the Delta variant, which could've been easily prevented if a travel ban was delivered sooner

never thought my nation, and other EU countries would be doing better than UK this time of year

our numbers for example are lowest figure in last 9 months

The UK figures are not much different to the Netherlands and you have 1/3 of the population

The 33% rise in vents equates to 50 people in a week, less than 10 a day not exactly a massive rise

sooo our data from eurovision song contest got back, test results

During the nine shows of the Eurovision Song Contest, 48 of the 29,875 visitors were possibly infected with the coronavirus. That comes down to over five people per show, according to figures from the GGD. Thirteen people were already infected with corona during the Eurovision Song Contest.

The organisation of test events on behalf of the government, Fieldlab Events, announced the figures late Thursday afternoon. The 48 people who were possibly infected during the Eurovision Song Contest are only visitors. The infections among crews, volunteers, press and delegates will be announced later this month.

48 infections out of 29,875 people equals an average of 1.6 per 1000 people. In the period when the Eurovision Song Contest was held, the national average was 4.9 infected people per 1000. "That is more than three times the number of infections among visitors to the Eurovision Song Contest," notes the Fieldlab Events.

only 48 'possible' infections out of nearly 30.000 visitors is really really good, to have kept it at such a minimum and not a superspreader event, so it is possible to organize big music events with audience like this, and with these strict health/safety protocols

I don't mean to be a doom-predictor Nicky but Europe has been several weeks "behind" the UK for quite a while, and we were at our lowest numbers since last summer very recently.

Delta variant is certainly already in Europe, and numbers will start heading back up soon because of that.

Ah OK interesting, it does say that's just registration though and that the appointments would begin mid-June so probs not too many have had theirs yet
