…even the little girl’s performance was very moving…she carried that big weight very well with the emotional content…Paul Mescal is becoming a favourite for me, I saw him not too long ago in Foe and he was excellent in that also…

I saw a good film recently, in a house with people coming in, but can't remember what it was called?

I watched the first Conjuring Film last night.
I didn't like it tbh, the Annabelle stuff and the look at the mini mirror scenes were good, but the rest of it just felt like I'd seen much better Horror Films attempt in the past. Plus some of the acting felt melodramatic to me. And like with A Quiet Place, it felt like some of the Horror moments that were there (accept for the Annabelle and mini mirror stuff,) were extremely forced, rather than feeling organic to the story.

COPA 71, about the forgotten 1971 Women's Football word cup
I saw it at the Tyneside Cinema, after which there was a panel discussion with the host of True Faith Podcast, a sports journalist and the coach and team captain from both the Newcastle and Sunderland Women's soccer teams. It was a 10/10 and if you get to see it, be prepared to be angry at how the teams we treated afterwards and how this tournament was airbrushed out of history.

…Fast Charlie……it wasn’t fast paced as such but it ticked a long quite nicely…I don’t know if it was James Caan’s last appearance but he always had a great presence when he was on screen ….6/10, I enjoyed it…

…Damsel……Millie Bobby Brown as the Damsel …a little bit fairytale and a little bit horror, I guess…I liked it, it was a different take with that damsel having no need of a prince to rescue her…7/10…

Can never get enough of horror films. To quote The Shining, I'm a 'confirmed ghost story and horror film addict'.
Like Oliver W though, I struggle with modern horror films a tad, though not for the same reason. I think we must be drifting towards different types of horror, because most modern horror films, as far as I can tell, seem absolutely obsessed with replicating the slow burn horror films of the seventies (which I'm not opposed to!), but also infusing it with some sort of socio-political message, which, owing to the type of people who feel more inclined towards the arts, is almost always biased towards one side of the political aisle lol. And the worst part, above all else, is that it's rarely subtle or well-woven into the fabric of the story. It can get immenseley tiresome after a while. It's like, 'oh, another film more concerned with delivering a 'message' than simply telling me a good story.' It's not a deal breaker for me, and I still watch modern horror, but I seem to take longer and longer in getting around to watching new releases. But there wasn't really much for me to really get into with The Conjuring. I haven't watched Insidious yet, but I have got it on my bucket list.

Yes that was a good one. I prefer those kinds of horror. Not so graphic, but suspenseful.

I only liked Wedding Singer out of the movies he's done. That was a really good one. He should do more movies like that.

I generally like his films, Happy Gilmore is probably my favourite. This one wasn't a comedy (not intentionally anyway I don't think)

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
I watched it the first time and liked it. I watched it again last night and didn't think it was that good. Leonard Nimoy and Jeff Goldblum, their acting was OTT and really bad. |

Willard (1971)
Often have trouble deciding whether I prefer this or the Crispin Glover remake. In the past I've usually preferred the 2003 film, but over the years I've really come to love the original more and more. And I do enjoy Bruce Davison as an actor.

…Road House 2024…..I didn’t hate it, I worried that I might but I didn’t…I started off really liking it, it felt like a very nostalgic movie and the setting location made me want to go to live in the Florida Keys…(…although I don’t think it was filmed there…)…and Jake Gyllenhaal gave the vibe that he was just having a great fun time…but it didn’t really quite gel with its storyline and characters, I didn’t feel…it was like bits all joined together but with, I don’t know…an awkward fit…it wasn’t smooth, it didn’t flow…it just lept and jumped from scene to scene and it felt as though it was missing any hmmmm….soul, I guess….anyways, though…I didn’t hate it and I did like some bits of it…the fight scenes were quite brutal but well co-ordinated and choreographed…I don’t know if Conor McGregor himself had any part in the fight choreography …the beginning was enjoyable, the ending was ok and the middle went off a bit…but I’d still say around 6/10 and not a bad way to spend a little while…

I watched the first John Wick a couple of nights ago.
I was pleasantly surprised by it, as tbh I never liked the look of the series. But the writing was better than I expected, the Music was really strong, and obviously the action was top notch. Overall I would say that it was a solid 8/10 Film.

Castle of the Creeping Flesh (1968)
A German horror film dubbed into English. Low budget but fun to watch on a Sunday morning. |
