Why do celebrities need to announce anything about their sexuality? aren't they then just making into a 'big thing' to be discussed when they could just you know not?

Cant they just be what they are and leave it at that without announcing to the world as if everyone gives a ****...

In most cases, it's the news channels that were going to make a deal out of it whether someone announces it or not

this.

and the fact that if he went out with his boyfriend or was papped at a gay bar, it's not fair on him because it would be twisted and said that he's a liar/closet case/bad example to fellow gays etc. if he does it in his own way, then he has full control. plus he said he still likes girls which is huge because the news papers would just say he's gay... when he says he's apparently not.

I edited my post to fit the general consensus since I think Josy wasn't specifying Tom Daley's case but the point stands.... it is news channels and online media that make massive deals out of it.

More to the point, why do journalists feel the need to ask questions to celebrities about their private lives when it comes to relationships? Why the ****** do they need to ask a professional diver if he has a girlfriend? How is it relevant, important or necessary? This is why celebrities feel the need to announce stuff like this, because they're constantly questioned about it by journalists and paps that need to ****** off out of their business. It's festering a bizarre celebrity obsessed culture where so many people are seemingly so bothered about who people they don't even know are having relationships with.

Once journalists start doing their jobs properly, the obsession will end and the celebrities won't feel the need to discuss such issues anymore.

Eh I'd say it's more that the papers and news are only really fulfilling a public demand for all this celebrity gossip, they're more a symptom than a cause, like the story was the most read one on the BBC news site all day and the DM article for it had nearly 2,000 people commenting

I don't even think it's a new thing particularly either, the public have always been interested in the personal lives of those who are in the public eye a lot

And I honestly believe that the interest stems from the media reporting on celebrities personal lives, but it has definitely worsened in the last few years

There's a real issue IMO about asking certain people about their relationships, I mean seriously what relevance does Tom Daley's relationship status have when he's stood next to a diving board at the Olympics? Why are journalists asking these questions? Something needs to change because they shouldn't even be allowed to question that sort of thing unless the person brings it up themselves

You only have to have a look at what the "News of the World" was printing back in the 1940's and 1950's!

Edit: Libel Laws may have prevented them from naming names, but everyone knew who was being written about!

clearly they do it to make money , the way gareth thomas did to sell his grubby book...the weak minded or those who wanted to appear good on tv went along with the nonsense..I notice mickey rourke saw sense and didnt bother making the movies about his rather dull life

i hate seeing all this cisgender/bigender/pansgender/queerstraight **** all over the internet...

i think if you are what you're born with. A dick or a vagina makes you who you are and if you don't like it, then change it...

seriously, i saw something on tumblr saying 'people with vaginas...' and then someone said you mean girls? and then the person was like 'no i mean people with vaginas cause not everyone with a vagina is a girl...' LIKE REALLY?

Jesus christ

its just PC gone mad

Why do we have to come out? Surely if it's okay we don't have to do it? It doesn't make sense to me why you have to tell your parents/friends/family that you're gay or bi, surely you can just get on with it and be with who you want to be with; no need to announce it.

You should just be able to come home one day with someone, maybe someone of the same gender and just say, "this is my boyfriend/girlfriend" and then get on with your life.
