I once watched a little video about how the brain can't catch up quickly enough when someone's perception of reality suddenly clashes with undeniable information that conflicts with that reality and just goes *ping!*, like an elastic band that's been stretched out too far, into an incoherent and self-contradictory mess for a while until it can create a new framework to work off of. Fascinating stuff. It's got to be at play a lot here. There are people who seem to be genuinely arguing that driving around... in a car... is a good idea for an adhoc eye test. And that travelling 250 miles to visit family was never against the lockdown restrictions. From an anthropological standpoint, it's fascinating stuff.

There's definitely some interesting things going on from an evolutionary standpoint of how we deal with and stick to in groups versus outgroups. Arista accepted the evidence before his eyes on covid, but as soon as a member of the tribe was attacked, he went full on silverback in his defence, even though he was attacking the actual leader of the tribe for his inaction.

I'd love to read what historians write about this period in a couple of hundred years time going back to the referendum and attacks on experts.

You expect too much from people who defy all logic to stick to their party lines.

Boris Christ has defended him so these people will defend Cummings to the death because they see any failing of the government as a failing on their part and their egos can't take it so they'll deny, ignore, lie and gaslight to hide the truth.

Everyone should be outraged about this regardless of political persuasion. People have died alone, their families denied closure because of this virus, people in charge who flout the rules should be dragged over the coals. I'm tired of hypocrites with a shifting sense of morality when it comes to their political agendas.

How can we judge them for breaking their own lockdown guidance to protect the NHS and the most vulnerable to go on a jaunt to visit family for a birthday trip when other people are dying alone and having unattended funerals right across the country in the name of protecting each other?
