Abi Phillips has called on Hollyoaks writers to give her character Liberty Savage a romantic plot.

Phillips has seen her character engaged to Ethan Scott (Craig Vye) since joining the teen soap in 2010.

However, since the pair split up after it emerged he had been secretly dating her best friend Theresa, Liberty has not been in any lasting relationship.

Phillips told Heat that such a storyline could be unlikely due to the presence of her alter ego's older brothers Dodger (Danny Mac) and Will (James Atherton).

"My brothers are so overprotective of me," she explained. "I'd really like my character to go a bit wild on the boy front.

"It would get so many people in trouble and you'd get to learn what the family's about. It'll be cool to see why they're like that as well."

Hollyoaks' Carmel McQueen will reportedly suffer horrific injuries after an accident on a tanning machine.

McQueen, played by Gemma Merna, decides to use the machine in an attempt to look her best in her quest to become the face of new gym Attwell's.

The plan backfires when the machine explodes, reports the Daily Star.

Hollyoaks viewers will have to wait until a future episode to see if she survives, or the extent of her injuries.

Soap bosses are reported to have wished to give the air-head character a more serious and emotional storyline.

A source from the show said: "Carmel's life is on the line because she is desperate to get a tan."

The episodes will air on Channel 4 later this summer.

Hollyoaks newcomer Neil Newbon has teased that his character Walker's storyline will be "quite revolutionary".

Walker made his first appearance on the Channel 4 soap last month and he will return to screens in a few days' time, causing Cheryl Brady to fear that her brother Brendan is up to no good again.

Brendan (Emmett Scanlan) and Walker previously spent time in prison together, now sharing both a rivalry and a mutual respect.

Newbon told Inside Soap of Walker's future: "I'm so excited about what's in store. Walker is a very unusual character for Hollyoaks, and his story is going to be quite revolutionary."

He continued: "It's something the audience won't have seen before."

Offering his take on Brendan and Walker's sparring, Newbon added: "They have a volatile dynamic because they're so similar in many ways. Walker thinks Brendan is far and away the most impressive person he's ever come up against, and has a lot of respect for him.

"They're always working in parallel, whether it's together or against one another. They are each other's shadows."

As seen in the latest Hollyoaks picture preview, Joel Dexter (Andrew Still) will soon decide to do some detective work by finding out more about Walker.

Beyond that, magazine reports have revealed that Lynsey Nolan (Karen Hassan) will also become curious about Walker, doing some digging of her own when she realises that there may be a mystery connection between him and Amy Barnes's Australian boyfriend Ally (Dan O'Connor).

Hollyoaks star Karen Hassan has revealed that she is likely to remain in the soap for the "foreseeable future".

The actress - who plays Lynsey Nolan in the Channel 4 soap - said that although she misses her family and friends while filming, she is also enjoying her time away from Northern Ireland.

"Everybody's always at the end of a phonecall and my friends were over at the weekend - and my mum's coming over in the next few weeks," she told What's On TV.

"I miss the closeness and the familiarity of home but I feel settled here in Liverpool and it's my home for the foreseeable future.

"The whole thing for me has been a whirlwind. I always say when you start on Hollyoaks you don't just get a job, you get a whole lifestyle."

Hassan recently returned to Belfast to film her role in BBC drama The Fall alongside her Hollyoaks co-stars Emmett Scanlan and Bronagh Waugh.

She explained that she enjoyed having the opportunity to live with her mother during the production.

"I've wanted to come back to Belfast and do something for a while, whether it was a play or a film or a series like The Fall and it was lovely to fly back to Belfast and I'm able to stay at my mum's house while I'm filming.

"It's funny - obviously I was over the moon because me, Emmett and Bronagh are all in Hollyoaks together playing kind of a family so it was amazing for us finding out the news kind of consecutively that we'd got parts in The Fall.

"We're all over the moon that we all ended up in it but randomly our paths don't really cross that much in The Fall. I was filming a scene with Emmett yesterday but our characters didn't know each other."

Crime drama The Fall starring Gillian Anderson debuts this winter on BBC Two in the UK.

Karen Hassan recently said that she wants Hollyoaks serial killer Silas Blissett to make a dramatic return to the village.

Why has Jacqui chucked Liberty out? It should have been Bart after what he did and Myra deciding to take the blame then getting a prison sentence.

Jacqui moved out of the McQueen house to get independence away from her family and now she is back there, it does not make sense.
