The Italian Job

My electric doesn't really use much money, it's quite cheap.
The gas is much more expensive, but I need it for cooking/shower/central heating when it's cold.

Good on GMBHD itv
spoke to the Northern Ireland Secretary, last week, about them not getting their payments he smirked at them, saying he would sort it. This Week Nothing has changed, it is because N.I. has no government sitting. Last edited by arista; 16-11-2022 at 11:20 AM. |

i think those that used the most during the peak times will show the biggest discount in their bills, those that are already energy aware will save very little

[National Grid issues power shortage warning for tonight
Homes may suffer power issues this evening after the National Grid issued a warning on its capacity. The notice of its tight electricity margin comes into effect from 7pm, when most people will be returning from work, cooking their dinner and using household appliances. The National Grid issues the warnings when "there may be less generation available" than operators expect will be needed "to meet national electricity demand".] From The Telegraph. |

I still don't have any heating on, and am quite content and warm enough to layer up.
The real cold comes when it's bedtime. Two or three duvets keep the cold out, but I now I am using hot water bottles. I say hot water bottles plural because I use one hot water bottle in bed from 10.30pm to about 2am. By 2am the hot water bottle is warm, and I can detect cold again. So I usually get up at 2am to go to the loo, so luckily I had a spare kettle, took that upstairs, boil it and make a second hot water bottle which takes me up to 6am, time to get up. ![]() That has sorted out my warmth. Nice nice and toasty. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Gawd, it was so cold yesterday, I had to switch the heating on for an hour, just to warm up my bones. I could feel the cold getting in my bones.
I feel sorry for the over 60s and those in their 70s, 80s and 90s. I'm warm as toast in bed, what with two hot water bottles and three duvets on the bed. ![]() ![]() |

There's also another £150 winter fuel payment based on the age of your house. Not many people are aware of that.

We've pretty much decided that we're not going to put up with being cold over the winter and will just swallow £100 each out of our pay for the gas bill on top of the regular bill. It's looking to be about £320 a month. But that's for actual usage, direct debit is cancelled and we're paying on bill - which means bills will be tiny by comparison over summer (we basically use no gas at all between April and October).
I do appreciate that we're in a somewhat privileged position to be able to just swallow £200 a month but I just can't be doing with the stress of watching every tick round of the utility metres so **** it I guess. I feel somewhat aware that this is "what they want to happen" of course... they want people to accept this as the "new new normal" but there are too many other battles to stress over to keep worrying about this one.
