Well, I've never called anyone black, white or purple any biscuit of any discription, I was simply saying I, personnally would not find it offensive if someone called me one and also how is being compared to a biscuit racist?

I suppose if people feel offended then their feelings should be taken seriously first..

however the racist issue.. the main thing that pisses me off is why one rule for black people and yet the rules are stricter for white people..

times have changed since the 60's.. we live in a cosmopolitain country now.. there are more black people, people from difference backgrounds, countries, etc, with english not being the first language. I mean pretty soon, I bet in about 50 years time there will probably be as many black people in this country as white people!

Anyway the bottom line is, same rules should apply for both white and black people.

Let me just put my last point on this thread. You cant think for people. YOu cant say well you shouldnt be offended, because that wouldn't offend me.
Now I am black, and I say, that offends me. Take it how you will.
Accept the fact, and then act accordingly. One or the other. either Carry on making those remarks, because you dont care, which is fair enough. At least I respect people being real, and I would know what kind of person you are. Or stop doing it, because you realized, it offended someone. Plain, and simple.

Look, we all have our crosses to bare. The happiest we can ever expect to be is if we meet halfway. I'll try not to offend, if you try to understand that some things that do offend you are not meant to and are just sore subjects for you that not everyone knows about. Benefit of the doubt is needed. We all can't be perfect all of the time, and slack should be given in both directions for this to work.

I understand what you're saying but at the same time If people were to stop saying anything that offended even one person then there would be nothing at all shown on the TV anymore. Nobody would be able to have debates here anymore because they always offend someone etc. etc.

I just remembered something, so I thought I would share. When I first moved to the US, I was like 14. And where I am from in Senegal, people arent sel conscious about their weight. IN fact a lot of them enjoy being overweight.
BUt one day, this girl I use to hang out with, she is not fat or anything, as a matter of fact, I thought she was hot. Anyways, she was going to town eating some chips. SO I made the remark, "wow dude, slow down with them chips". ANd next thing I know, she is sobbing, being consoled by one of her friends, who knew me very well. And she let her know, I didnt mean it that way.
I had no idea what the hell I did wrong. BUt then the other girl told me, she is self conscious about her weight etc....
Ever since then, I have never made any kind of remark like that to anyone, even if its innocent, I am always aware of it, in the back of my head.

As I said I understand all that but some people are always going to find somethings offensive and others won't but we'd all have to pretty much shut up all of the time to make sure we don't ever offend anyone!

I would be careful about changing your behaviour everytime you meet a weirdo.

I didn't consider her a weirdo. I understoond perfectly why she was upset, after it was explained to me. Its just a different culture than what I was used to.

what you said to her is not cultural. She has been poorly brought to think that being remotely called glutinous (even though she is clearly in her mind not so) is so bad as to render tears.

I would imagine she perhaps had underlying health issues but again it was nowt to do with what you said.

It's the same as making a comment about suicide and offending someone because their brother committed suicide, should we then never mention suicide?

Or making a comment about anorexia and offending someone cos their sister died of anorexia, should we then never mention anorexia?
