I have a feeling i will get very fat soon. I eat like a beast because i know i can and i have a super fast immune system... and it will come back to bite me in the arse!!

So in a few years i would admit to it being because i thought i would never put the weight out, but as you get older, and hit your 20s, your likely to pile the pounds on.

It starts at about 21 or 22. That's when you have to be more careful about your eating and general living habits cuz yes, it does have a tendency to bite you in the arse.

Im 8 stone, most of my mates are about 9-10 stone and are the same age as me (17). I WANT to put on weight, but I cant, not at the moment, and I dont get why. But if i was to put on weight i would want it to be slowly over the next 2 years. I dont want it to bite me in the arse, get up one morning and be considered a slob. I dont even exercise much, yes I walk to the station everyday (about 20 mins walk) thats it though.

If i did football/rugby like my friends, i would weigh even less.

Well you can always really judge it from your parents and their siblings. What weight are they? It's usually a good indication as to how you'll fare.

When my Dad was my age he was 10 stone, he is now 14 stone. So he is already 2 stone ahead of me. My Mum was quite thin for her age but now she is about 64kg (something like 9.5-10 stone right now).
My sister is 20 years old and she is about 7.5 stone, so quite light too.

I wanted to go my Dads way, but looks like im coming more from my Mums side.

However, heightwise im following my Dad, he is quite short and so am I... he's probably 5'9, Im about 5'6.

Football yes, Rugby definitely not. You would have gained muscular weight, not fat tho.

Firstly, well done to Twilight, keep it up girl!

And secondly, I don't like to criticise larger people because I don't like when people tell me to eat more or interrogate me for being teeny. It's their body, they can do what they like - but just know that there isn't always going to be a helping hand.

No, just why would you let yourself get fat? Why don't people just look after themselves and watch what they eat? Its so easy to not get fat, and then they moan when they're fat anyway as though its someone elses fault

How did they get overweight in the first place?

Because of psychological issues and some genes effect ? You do not become obese because you want to, you become obese without realizing you are. It's a body image issue. Food is the only place you feel good. It's a vicious circle.

The 'fat gene' only makes you vulnerable to be overweight, it doesn't mean you will be overweight so obviously a good balance is needed there. As for psychological issues, well fair enough but if you don't want to be obese then you'll replace the 'addiction' with another one.

And to Tom's comments.

A large % of people are fat because it runs in the family. I mean if a 20 stone woman gives birth to you, its about 70% likely or so, that you will be quite big for a small age and then be obese when your older.

However, some people do get themselves fat.
I dont like how they do that and then moan.

BUT, I like people who admit that they like being fat and dont have a problem with it. Its their life and if their happy the way they weigh, fair enough.

Our genes play a big part in deciding our weight. You see in ancient times our ancestors had to scavenge for any food they could get. Having a strong appetite is probably something that evolved because it was useful for our survival in those days.

Forward to modern times, and we live in a world (at least in the West anyway) where food is plentiful. However we still have genes which tell us to eat at every opportunity. Hence some people eat too much.

I totally agree. And then we have access to mass produced, low grade food products that are extremely high in saturated fat which, according to what my cousin once told me, the body never realises when it's had enough of and so we continue to gorge. I can't relate to you what she said verbatim, but it was something along those lines. The brain doesn't know when it's full of that kind of fat.
