It was the same thing when we had Coolio, and Verne Troyer. People didnt want Verne to win, he was the favorite, but everyone voted for Ulrika as the anti Verne vote.

The fact that the person who harrassed Michael for weeks, and pulled down Karissa's pants, speaks volume really.

And the anti american thing started with the face to face voting. They all gave BS reasons for the twins. I was annoyed by that, but it worked out because everone was up.

Its a shame, because this is the best series, in a long time!

Yep the way Tricia and Pete were slagging off the Americans was disgusting. Shouldn't have been allowed to be aired. It's funny that Pete was defending the twins for most of the series but as soon as Tricia Penrose comes on and starts saying that Americans don't get our sense of humour, shouldn't be allowed on the show etc. Pete sided with her. It's the whole "she's one of us" attitude again. None of the BOTS audience seemed to disagree either which is even more worrying. Xenophobia, in particular on reality TV shows is a growing problem in the UK and it's not taken seriously.

Coolio was a bit of a knob but it woukd'vr been lame without him. Gangsta'a Paradise is such a tune aswel. Cairon was lame tho, replace him with Darnell.

Lots of people did side with Denise though because of her British nature, it's the whole "she's one of us" attitude that automatically puts Denise in the right and the twins in the wrong.
I didn't. Don't worry, I'm not getting personal. I'm giving reasons (my own) for why the end vote may mirror the "haters" on facebook etc. Meaning there may be xenophobes on the internet like there are a myriad of nasty people who spew venom about anyone and anything from the safety of their computers but that doesn't mean that they have any immediate bearing on the final result. There's many other reasons the vote is the way it is. The twins and Michael wouldn't be in the final if the voters as a whole were like those forumers.

Maybe we're getting more like that because of the new ways of voting online with facebook and everything but really I'm trying to say that don't be disheartened by pathetic people who's only vindication in life is the vilification and hatred of others because they really are a small, yet extremely vocal, minority.

Exactly, the crux of it is that the majority of the time the Americans they put in aren't likeable enough to be crowned winner.

Plus, the fact it is a British show means that statistically a Briton has a better chance of winning. Like this year 3 (or 2) American housemates with 8 or so Brits means the Americans must really stand out of the crowd in a good way. Not in an unlikeable Coolio way.

So just about every single person, celebrity or not (aside from maybe the twins) seems to say that they aren't going in the house to win, but for the experience.

Do you all just think they are all lying, or what? Because otherwise, why would the "fact" that they probably won't win change their decision to go in or not? I know if I went in, there's a 0% chance I would win, and I'd likely get in an argument with someone in the first week and be one of the first ones out, but I would still jump at the chance to go in, even for a small amount of time. Wouldn't you think that celebrities would feel the same way?

They'll go in if they're offered enough money. However I would hope that they'd get a serious warning on how different British culture is.

In America drinking is seen as the cause of bad behaviour. On the British Isles it's seen as an excuse for bad behaviour.

So if you're American you should go in, and no matter how offensive and abnormal you find the whole boozed up misbehaviour, just laugh it off and excuse it all. Do not re-act to it. If you do - you're wrong.

I'd even dare to say, put 5 british and add to the mix 3 americans, 2 latin americans, 2 europeans and someone from asia or australia, now that would be awesome!

I've often thought it would be great to see an international BB-All stars with housemates from all countries. I'm not sure it would be a great idea for the Celeb version though. No offense to other countries, but generally speaking there aren't too many local celebrities that are well known outside their own country (Excepting US and UK) so I think it would defeat the purpose of calling it Celebrity BB if you had people in there that were "only" local celebs.

Well, I've read through all of the comments and have to say that I didn't start this thread to bang on about xenophobic attitudes towards Americans. It's more that there is a kind of inverted snobbery towards Americans in particular, almost an antipathy from the moment they enter the house. They tend to be more confident and brash overall and personally I like that trait, but it doesn't seem to go down too well with the GBP. They are automatically viewed as arrogant simply because they behave as if they are in a game show and act accordingly.

I am fed up to the back teeth with people moaning about so and so "playing the game" as if it's a bad thing. For some reason, playing the game on a game show is a big no, no over here. The Americans tend to enter the house with the full intention of trying to win, whilst the Brits tend to pretend they are only there for the experience and the journey blah blah, which is total BS. Maybe therein lies the conflict, because the viewers have certain expectations of the behaviour they expect from "deserving" housemates.

It's encouraging that two Americans reached the last five, but I guarantee that if it'd had been vote to evict the Twins and Michael would have been long gone.

I think there should be Americans (and other nationalities as well) in in the future. The cultural differences are quite interesting and I love to see how people deal with them.

This year, I didn't like Michael's entrance at all and I thought he was going to be awful. Well, at times he was but mostly he wasn't. I'm quite intrigued by what goes on in his mind and I would have loved to hear more of it. So after the first night I started liking him but the way he continued on and on about Denise even when I thought Denise had settled down quite a lot (all in all I think Denise caused most of Michael's irritation), so he went down a bit in my books. But still, I would have liked to hear more of what went on in his mind, not about Denise that much.

Then the twins, I expected they'd be very different from me and in manner that I didn't like. That was obvious to me from the start but what surprised me was their arrogance and feeling of superiority which I cannot stand, so for me, they were even worse than I thought in the beginning. However, they had their moments but not often.

And I would love it Neil Patrick Harris would do it!

Maybe the BBUK should go along the same lines as BBUSA,as they only have Americans in BBUSA ...sometimes people from over and away don't get the British sense of fun....
Well done Denise,you go girl..

I don’t go on Book Face and if it’s true that there have been xenophobic posts on there then it’s not good but it’s just a fact of life. It would be exactly the same (if not worse) in any other country.

Thankfully I think the majority of us are not racist and it certainly never entered my head to even bring nationality into who I wanted to win or evict. You are always going to get small minded pond life though who will think like this but overall I think we are the least racist country out of a lot I have spent time in and that includes America.

I think however we are close enough to our American Cousins and them to us for us to have a jibe at them tongue in cheek without either side getting offended. Perhaps humour is sometimes jumped upon too quickly as being xenophobic.

I treat people as individuals. I don’t give a stuff where they are from but if they are vile like the twins I am not going to like them, end of.

Once again Visage,I agree, nothing to do with their nationality for me,i love Americans on the whole, just not all of them same as Brits or any nationality,I liked Michael, didn't like the twins, simple as.it was down to their sheer bitchiness, arrogance and hypocrisy
