If you think Film critics are bad then check out the Games critics? they score very good Sonic Games really low, yet score the Call Of Duty's and Fallout 3 really high yet there not a patch on Sonic The Hedgehog.

But I will go back on topic now, I do agree with you that Film critics are not the best at judging Films quality, I remember they scored Drag Me To Hell really high yet when I watched it and I thought it was rubbish.

I know loads of people that hate Fallout 3.

And away from the critics, Drag Me To Hell was a very controversial Film because of it's content.

As the op said they went with expectations of a horror flick and instead was met with a very ott black comedic horror/fantasy film.

Why is it Horror Films suck these days?

This is like the 90s when the genre was dieing out, at least Scream came along and saved it for a while - now it's gone again.
Honestly, It's a shame too. It's just these constant films that try and be all scary and realistic and stuff, the trailer shows off 90% of the entertaining parts, and that's that.

Yeah definitely, but then sense then other films are trying to do this whole fly on the wall, barely any storyline, not much attention to characters type films - and think that's scary.

I thought it was excellent, it was well written and I've never seen anything quite like it. I liked how it deconstructed the cliches of the genre while at the same time sticking to them and making them believable. I really loved the references and nods to other horror films as well.

I wish that the zombies didn't dominate the film so much though, as I thought the other monsters were more interesting. I liked the nods towards The Ring, Hellraiser and I.T. Also the Unicorn bit made me cackle.

All in all I thought it was great, one of the best horror films I've seen.

Also Drag Me To Hell was a very fun film, they managed to make a good horror film with only a PG-13 to work with which isn't an easy task.

The problem is with Joss Whedon he turns everything into some cheesy moment with a bit of comedy to it, his only attempt at going really serious (Angel) didn't last for very long without Buffy because it was really dull imo, Joss Whedon is very limited in what he can do and he has some of the most irritating characters in TV history so this Film doesn't shock me with it's content tbh.
