I had a friend when I lived in Germany who fell into the latter category. Really nice girl, but she was so timid and afraid to have an opinion on ANYTHING that it got a bit frustrating. We're talking along the lines of "what do you want to order?" "oh I don't mind, just whatever everyone else is having!" - this is your dinner we're talking about. This is your choice to make. You can't crowd please all the time!

I think nice people, and those that refuse to express an opinion are different subsets. Probably more of a Venn diagram relationship between nice and malleable. Definite crossover, but not a defining characteristic.

I think you're right, but those people are always called nice by default because there's nothing else to say about them - hence the confusion in this thread, even. I'd never thought about it like that before, that's a good way of explaining those kinds of people.

Nice, to me, means receptive, respectful, open, polite, interested... any more than that when I first meet someone and I think they're trying to be more than they are. Also, anyone who wants to hug or kiss me, invade my personal space or who are overly familiar when I first meet them are damned forever in my eyes.
