I actually agree with you on this, I would have used Osborne for all the contacts and good relations he has built up over his 6 years as Chancellor in some other role.
Such as the one you suggest.

I think this is a very short sighted move from her actually.

Getting rid of Osborne is symbollic and probably necessary. He goes hand in hand with Cameron, unfortunately for him. They want to at least create the illusion of a "clean slate" Tory government, wash their hands of everything that came before and during the referrendum, both for the benefit of the GBP and to be able to say "You're dealing with this NEW government now" when trying to reforge international relationships.

Osborne being there in any capacity would firmly anchor them in the Tory-LibDem 2010+ era. He had to go.

I would have kept Gove at justice, he was actually carrying out some pretty progressive work there

I agree. It's a little perplexing just what she has achieved by sacking a proven highly capable politician like Gove.

I think simply she, like osborne, does not trust him as far as she could throw him

she is getting the mandelson-like snakes out of her nest

they can always come back at a later date. TM must believe they would not be suitable for the cabinet at this point. For example, something clearly went down between Boris and Gove, so the last thing she needs is cabinet ministers scoring points off each other. Its not just about individuals, its about how they work as a team.

Theresa was supposed to be the continuity candidate though, the 'safe pair of hands', but here she is already breaking down Cameron's government bit by bit

She has to exert her authority from day 1 or she would have no respect. Parliament is full of children remember

I don't agree with Boris' position but I'm loving that she gave Gove the boot.

I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop, TM's the best choice out of a terrible bunch and we shouldn't forget what May has done in the past. I just hope she continues to defy expectations and doesn't turn into Thatcher 2.0.

I'm delighted that Liz Truss has been given Gove's job. I've worked with her, she's a really capable politician and a good person.

I'm cautiously optimistic - the appointment of the 3 Brexiteers - Davis, Johnson and Fox is definitely a promising start.

David Davis is a man of principle and we need more of that in government. You can't deny that Boris is an interesting character and a well known personality worldwide. I think it's a great appointment.

Glad to see the back of Gideon Osborne, he's damaged goods and there's no place in government for someone who talks the country down. But I am disappointed she's sacked Gove, I think that's a petty childish mistake.

Good riddance to dullard Nicky Morgan, she was absolutely useless as education secretary. Hunt getting the sack was inevitable - they need a way to resolve things with the junior doctors.

I don't think that Amber Rudd is the right person for home secretary - I think she's too strident.

I'm just waiting to see who will be looking after transport. And could Leadsom get culture secretary?

The proof will be in the pudding but I am quietly optimistic at this stage.
