I agree; I usually assume that people who think execution is the worst punishment must believe in some sort of afterlife / hell.

How can being dead be a punishment... if you're dead, you don't exist, so you aren't experiencing anything at all .

Also, everyone dies, so it's like "Aha! The ultimate punishment; you will have to go through something that every single human being goes through, except, you will have to do it a bit EARLIER!"

I can think of loooads of worse things to do to people than killing them. Like if I started a list I think I could literally go on for days...

I torn about torturing those that tortured others, will that not make us same as them?

We all say I would do this and that to them, but really doing it is a different story.
Like soldiers kill in the name of queen and country but that killing stays with them.

Having shot someone my self and been arrested for attempted murder, that night comes back to haunt me at times.

I can get on board with the concept of execution for the worst criminals where there is no hope of redemption tbf, but it's purely from a practical standpoint: to save on the pointless exercise of keeping them locked up, and to remove the chance (no matter how tiny it is) of escape and victimizing more people. Also only when it's 100% certain that they are a guilty, red-handed mass murderer.

But I stand by the point that it's not a punishment of any kind. The dead are not suffering. An executed criminal isn't bothered that he has been executed. He isn't anything about anything.

its not just that, for however long he was locked up for he is a focal point for other nutters and was constantly in the press. If he had been executed at the time of the crime, by now people would be saying who the hell was he.

I guess I envy people who would consider that closure... All I can really say is, if someone murdered my family, I'd find a way for them to suffer unimaginably before getting the finality of death. Like I said, I don't believe in literal hell, so I'd just have to make one for them for as long as possible .

Maybe not the healthiest outlook I guess ...
