i've heard at a show here called College Tour one stand up comedian from us dutch say ''you have to be careful what jokes to make these days, he finds that sad since there was more love for comedy, more freedom in making jokes many years ago''

he's right that people are too quickly insulted, taking things too serious now more than 10, 20 years ago

Nigel Farage on Jo Brand
Nigel Farage has demonstrated his snowflake credentials by insisting the police get involved because someone told a joke he didn’t like.

Nigel took offence after a comedian made a joke on a comedy show on a radio station that focusses on comedy, insisting that jokes now constitute hate speech and are there to incite violence.

“Jo Brand made a joke about replacing milkshakes the milkshakes thrown at far-right figures with battery acid, and so she should go to prison,” Farage told reporters with a straight face.

“Anyone who looks at my record can see I’m a true believer in free speech, but not when it’s jokes I don’t like, or when there are political points to be scored. Then I’m all for getting the police involved.”

When it was pointed out that Nigel himself had said he’d pick up a rifle if Brexit was thwarted, he insisted that wasn’t supposed to be taken literally, and so is completely different.

“Jo Brand literally wants to throw battery acid at people like me, you can tell she definitely wants to do that by the way she chose a comedy show to talk about it. Whereas I spoke about picking up a rifle at a political rally, where everyone knows the words spoken aren’t supposed to be taken seriously.

“They are totally different. Yes they are. Shut up.”

Brexit Party supporter Simon Williams told us, “Nigel has a point, free speech has its limits, and those limits are making jokes we don’t like.

“Yeah, we could have just not laughed at the joke and then moved on with our day, but then no-one would know we are just a bunch of crybaby hypocrites.”

People can and will get upset by jokes, its not new. It’s probably best to avoid comedians forever though. And films and television just to be safe. Each person needs to work out how much of a protective bubble they want or need.

Obviously it’s not on at all what Jo Brand has said but when Jess Phillips was described as “too ugly to rape” and Danny Baker called the royal baby “a monkey” there were people pissing themselves dripping. Why is it different now the political leanings have switched?

I’m not for censorship of comedy or even stupid unfunny comments that are supposed to be comedy.
I’m not for her being disinvited from the BBC either.
Comedy is supposed to be the last bastion of so called free speech in this country.

However,I think what leaves a bad taste in people’s mouths is the hypocrisy of the left wing bias in the media.
The beeb will protect Brand because she’s a money maker.
Comedy shows like Live at the Apollo only ever have lefty comedy.TV in general doesn’t do right wing comedy because it’s not ‘woke’ enough.You have to go online for that.
Left wing comedians can get away with far more controversial material and get the London champagne socialist audience laughing like nodding dogs at violence directed at their nemesis politicians who espouse different opinions.
