Fair enough...but they have to also work for the word scum to be attached to them...and so far this new government has not earned that.

Excellent job of missing the point, there.

The Tories have had ten years in power, people are allowed to think badly of them and calling the people in power scum (who have ****ed up so much and has consistently targeted the vulnerable, as tories always do) is incredibly tame.

The whole 'insulting tories is basically insulting me' attitude is just plain wrong, if you aren't a sitting MP, you don't have a reason to be offended.

What a waste of bloody money. Crowd fund £500k for something more worthwhile.

I'm actually disgusted anyone would throw money at ****e like this when people are suffering all around the country.

This... why can't we throw our support around something more beneficial. This nationalist symbolism is totally unnecessary.

Don't see the issue tbh, there's no public money being spent on it so if people want to donate to it themselves then that's their choice. It's not like all of us give every spare penny we have to charity or to help the needy so why be so judgemental about what other people spend their money on.

Who set that amount.. where does the money go?

That's what I was thinking when I made my comment.

a little girl can do the bongs and Fat Ben is flopping? Regardless of how talented that little girl, is it’s still a little girl outdoing your fave clock. Like, you’re not embarrassed?

Large Ben is tired. knock it down and give us a 24/7 krispy kreme.

Now that would never happen, so that would be the only waste of money in this thread so far.

500,000 for some gongs?!

Pay me 500 and I will shout some gongs into a megaphone, that will do the trick. Spend the rest on the NHS, Education or save it towards natural disasters around the world

If they really want this, how much would a few large speakers and a recording of the bells cost?

What people want to do with their money is totally up to them , you can't control what some want to do , there are so many ridiculous fund raisers, it maybe a waste of money to some ,but its not our money that will be used unless you donate and I doubt many here will and if you do it's what you wanted ,Many think bells should be rung all over the country, I don't see a problem.

Yeah good point Kazanne. If people are really silly enough to pay money towards it thats up to them. Wish I was as rich as them to afford to spare money like that!

A bob amount today is £1.10

So they can easily get that amount
if they set up a fund.

What's more worrying is people thinking 500k is not a gross figure... to ring a bell once.

But then, it's probably the same people still believing Farage's ridiculous Brexit sums too.
