I refuse to acknowledge Crystal Skull so I have low hopes for this one.
If they were going to do anything with the franchise, they should have rebooted it with someone new as Indy, Harrison Ford's been over acting for years and only dials it in these days. |

I think they were trying to soft reboot with Shia the Beef as a new iteration of the character but then The Crystal Skull tanked and, also, Shia turned into an existential nightmare.

Why So Serious?

James Mangold is a great director, but they missed the ball by not having Denis Villeneuve direct instead. You saw what he did with Blade Runner 2049, he could've done an equally amazing job with Indy 5. He's one of the best directors atm.

if they do recast Indy at some point or use a different character
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, i mean i can easily see him portraying an slightly older version of Shia's character, also think Nikolaj could redeem that character a bit and i also know he got bit of humour either how i also know him from Gods of Egypt, and i'd like to see him being pushed into a even more mainstream major acting gig since he can handle that well, as we know from GoT

He's so old I'm legitimately worried he might just... randomly die? Like not even of anything, they'll just go to get him for filming one day and be like "Oh he went peacefully in his sleep."

Yeah he does look a little silly in the part now.

They should really have taken the opportunity to have him in a "desk role" mentoring a new character from afar and attempt to pass on the mantle to a new "Indiana Jones". It is after all, as Sean Connery pointed out, not his real name so the new character could even start calling himself that.
It might not work and a solo film for the new star might flop, but worth a shot . It would probably do OK if they got a popular enough star for the role.

Yeah I don't understand why they haven't done that. Had him like the mentor from Karate Kid or something because if this is gonna be them kind of ignoring his age and we get doubles doing the stunts for him it may actually be one of the funniest films of the year.
![]() Kind of like how old man Phil Mitchell limps around the square in EE barely able to walk but then suddenly turns into Bond when fighting a 10 man gang.

Steve isn't that old though, only 62 ![]() if you want to make a good comparison, well there's John McCook, in the Bold also getting older, you wouldn't see him doing action scenes, or that would look weird (and yes him and harrison are more or less same age (John 76, Harrison 78) sorry to call you out on this

Called me out?
![]() I made a comment about the fact he struggles to walk and is clearly out of breath just talking but then when faced with a gang of 10 thugs he's suddenly James Bond. All because the writers refuse to acknowledge he's older now. Your response makes no sense. Last edited by Marsh.; 08-06-2021 at 04:01 PM. |

It looks like from the set photos they are bringing back Nazis, so I wonder how they will handle that.
Flashback or even alternate timeline? |

I'm in the camp of they *should* get a new actor to replace Harrison. No "passing the torch" or anything, just a new film set in the 30's, in the same timeline etc. It doesn't need a full reboot because the actor's face is different from Harrison's or anything.
Importantly, and this is maybe an unpopular opinion, but any new actor SHOULD try to replicate Harrison's style as much as possible, and not "put their own spin on the character," otherwise it wouldn't be Indiana Jones, which is the whole point. I don't like when actors take over roles within the same timeline and say they're "not gonna be a carbon copy" - umm the point of acting is to pretend to be someone else, so that's your job. River Phoenix did a great replication in Last Crusade. The next actor should be a relative unknown, tbh.
