I didn't like the first Doctor Strange, it was essentially the same film as Iron Man but with magic instead of technology, but the lead in from this show has me very intrigued.

That's probably why I enjoyed it. Never seen Iron Man.

I thought the finale was okay.

The final episode had a different tone from the previous eight, in that the series up until now had been about story and character, with a lot of inventive choices (like the sitcom parodies and fake adverts), but his was a lot more about action.

The action scenes felt to me kind of seen-it-all-before...

Spoiler:

...with the superhero-film ending cliche of the good version of a superhero fighting the bad version, here repeated two or three times ie. the witches, Visions and even the government agents.

I did like some of the emotional and character moments.

Spoiler:

However, even then when the force-field closed in, Wanda losing Vision was undercut by the fact they had made obvious that Vision is returning through the White Vision (and the post-credit scene).

Also, Marvel are constantly setting up future stories and...

Spoiler:

...I don't think the first post-credits scene was necessary at the end of a TV series as it seemed to be a completely separate story.

I like Doctor Strange as a character/hero but the main issue with the first film, I suppose as with many origin films, is that he wasn't really fully realised. And actually unlike most a origin films... Even at the end he wasn't really "there". The first appearance of actual Doctor Strange "The Sorcerer Supreme" and was Infinity War, and I think that plus WandaVision gives a much clearer view of the Doctor Strange franchise than the first film did. Essentially, I think it was enjoyable enough but it was very much a "setting the stage" movie. I feel more or less the same about the first Captain America. I didn't rate it at all as a standalone movie until after Avengers 1 and Winter Soldier.

Tbh if you're struggling with the style - while the first three episodes do add something to the overall experience - you could quite safely skip to episode 4 (when the story starts to become clearer) and not miss any overarching story.

Tbh if you know the basic premise (Wanda creates bubble sitcom-based alternate reality where she's a house wife married to vision and they have kids)... If you really just want a lead in for doc strange 2... You could get away with just watching 7-8-9.

The whole thing IS worth watching though

I watched Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness on Disney+. It continues Wanda's story from this show. I wasn't really into it though apart from a few scenes and moments.

I think the more weird and supernatural Marvel gets, the less I like it.

One idea in the film I liked was that when you dream you are seeing a different version of yourself from another universe.
