A Catholic believes The Bible as the word of God. If you don't you're not a Catholic in the churchs eyes. You're a mickey mouse Catholic. Something else entirely. That is a fact. It's like me deciding to refer to myself as an African American sailor. I'm not black and I don't own a boat.

Jesus was a Jew. He studied and believed in the Torah. Why would you not believe what your own living God and personal saviour believes in?

You don't find that a bit quaint? I suppose Jesus, much like you, decided the bits he didn't fancy were "just stories" as well?

Seriously? The whole basis of the Catholic Religion is believing in the Bible. If you don't then you're not really a Catholic.

Oh dear, Im not a Catholic in the eyes of the corrupt church? I suppose quite a few Catholic priests are not true Catholics then, because the last time I knew the Bible doesn't preach shagging the choir boy. I cannot make my views any more clear... I believe in Jesus and God and heaven and that whole shabang, and I believe that many of the Bibles stories are morals to help guide are lives. Okay?

Playing the corrupt church card doesn't really reset the argument back to nought. You have your own, altered belief system. I wouldn't call it Catholicism. Catholicism is built on quite a clear foundation of beliefs. If you aren't going to make yourself compatible with all of them it's pointless calling yourself Catholic because in doing so you're identifying with what you correctly pointed out is quite a corrupt church.

Your beliefs in my opinion are still totally whimsical considering it comes down to the scientific, tight shipped tour de force of "I believe these bits and not these bits because ... well I feel like it I guess" but obviously that's an argument destined for going in circles so I won't bother with it.

I don't see what's wrong with believing the bits that feel right to us? It's a lot less crazy than trusting a load of "scientists" ,mostly with vested interests, to tell us about how the world works imo

Scientific theories are based on facts. Faith is based on faith.

There's nothing wrong with that, the point is, you can't just pick and choose bits of a certain religion that you like and disregard the bits you don't but still claim to be a follower of said religion.

What on earth are you talking about? What an odd comparison to make. Science has been stretched to agendas in the past, yes, but it is on the whole a fool proof system for proving things and making the world work. Hospitals were built by science. Rockets were put in the sky by science. Science works. It hasn't got all the answers yet but it's not meant to. It's an ever evolving, ever growing network of proven things. What do you think religious people do first when someone has a heart attack, say a prayer or phone an ambulance?

How in any of Daffy Duck's wettest dreams can you draw up a comparison between that and picking and choosing segments of some dog eared, highly altered, bronze age tract where the only criteria for validity and factuality being liking some bits but not others? Do you not think The Bible had vested interests?

It doesn't even bear thinking about. Just mental, really.

It's not a logical thing to do I guess, I agree with that part.

do all these rockets, hospitals, etc make you feel any better about dying and the scientific idea that the whole of life is really just pointless and random? They don't make me feel any better personally

Life is pointless? What kind of life do you lead where you need spirituality to give it a point? Life is far from pointless. Sex feels great, food tastes great, I love people and they love me. I'm having a ball. Are you saying you can't find a point in anything without a god?

I don't need to feel any better about dying. I feel fine about it. If the universe is a lucky dip then I'm thankful I have one shot at this crazy, absurd adventure before going in the ground. I can say hand on heart that's more than satisfying for me.

I do however feel pretty tip top about living in a world where we can put people in space and help them if they feel sick. I dig buildings, have a love affair with television and just can't get enough of hot running water.

Why is it people always use religion to feel better? What if God is a bit of a wanker and you're going to hell? I'll take the godless option. No hell below us, above us only sky.

I don't believe in certain things and believe in others because I 'feel like it'. I have faith and beliefs in things which I can believe in. I don't really care if it doesn't make me a Catholic for not wanting to believe in, well, frankly a load a sh*te which to me is not believable. Maybe I shouldn't have been baptised, had a communion and conformation. For all I know in 20 years time I might look back at it and think it was a mistake. However, I believe in what I wish to believe in.

Anyway on topc, I only just heard about this.....Nice to see he had such strong belief and it made him feel comfortable during very tough situations. That is the important thing not if you believe in Science or Religion or the Tooth fairy.

It's sort of a thing that started from a bullying video that the person holds up the flashcards so that they can "talk" without crying

I've always thought life here is hell and then we move on to something better once we've learnt our lessons here - we must be on the same wavelength as most people I mention this to seem to think I'm mad..... but it sort of makes sense to me.

is it just me or is all this arguing about stupid semantics totally MISSING THE FOOKING POINT OF THE VIDEO.

Watch it again if you don't get it. Close yur mouth and watch it again, and try to figure out what yur missing, cause yur obviously missing the point. FFS.

Try to not have an opinion for 1 moment in your life, close yur mouth long enuf to actually try to listen to what he was trying to tell you.
