David Bowie and to a much lesser extent Madonna had substance behind their style though. RCA's record deal with Miley will have you know that she is a recording artist but really she records little and creates less. She's an artist in similar vein to how the budgie runs the mine. That's the most hilarious thing about all of this. When you summarise everything that is going on around Miley Cyrus in 2013 the last thing anything seems to want to talk about is her music. It's an afterthought. I know that's staggeringly obvious even perhaps to many of her own fans but I'm going to play arch cynic as usual here and point out the sheer hilarity of it.

Her music is just background hum to this awfully substance devoid, kitch campaign to get her total lack of a personality over. Regardless of how much she enjoys what she is doing she's ultimately the end product of a much larger arm that is here to sell sex and fragrances to people who often stay isolated and insecure in their bedrooms because they wish they were more brave and audacious like Miley.

If you're grown up, tuned in and like the mindless escapism of it all then indulge but rest assured there is nothing positive here for anybody's children. I applaud Sinead's letter. It's a total stab of fresh air that has managed to pierce the curtain and that should be heralded as a very, very good thing by all but the dullest of fools who will somehow once again ignore substance and chalk it up to Sinead wanting to be relevant or some other such dog eared excuse to lambast it.

Sinead's a total berry, obviously, but nobody can deny her status as an artist and I've always thought that she has a fundamentally good soul.

So yeah, good thing. Now get out of it when you can.

Her response wasn't so much "I am ignoring you" it was more-i'm important, have a job and i'm too relevant to make time for you and Sinead is rising to the bait. You're just giving her more publicity Sinead. But Sinead threatened to sue her, go for it sinead get that spoiled little brat. Can't wait to hear Billy Ray's opinion on all this " well gat damn a grown woman picking on a young girl still trying to find herself, well i'll be!"

Is Miley adopted? Because her parent's accents are super southern while Miley sounds like a New york male.

Thats what I thought, thats really bad. Sinead is right they are exploiting her for her sexuality so that middle aged pervs can oggle her. Doing things like that photoshoot, which isnt even a proper shoot just a bloke in a flat with a bloody camera phone is nothing to do with music. I bet Billy is not happy.

In response from Sinead...

"I have no interest whatsoever in meeting you. You had plenty of time yesterday to abuse Amanda Bynes .. an entirely innocent party.. and myself.. who also did nothing to deserve your abuse.. along with every other sufferer of mental health problems and every person who suffered abuse at the hands of priests.

You can take five minutes today between g- string *****in’ changes to publicly apologise and remove your abusive tweets. If you do not then you don’t give a **** who you mock and what damage you do by being so ignorant.

When you publicly apologise to Amanda and myself and all mental health sufferers as well as all who were abused by priests that will end the matter as far as I am concerned.

What you did yesterday was designed to damage me and my career and has caused me enormous distress and harassment and has potential to damage my career, since you deliberately gave the impression those tweets of mine were not two years old but reflect my current condition. If you cannot apologize I will have no choice but to bring legal proceedings against you since it is extremely hard to be given work when people think one is suffering from mental illness.

I have no interest in or desire to cause you trouble but if you do not apologise for having deliberately tried to cause me hurt and trouble personally and professionally I will have to bring pressure upon you.

When you end up in the psych ward or rehab I’ll be happy to visit you.. and would not lower myself to mock you.

Be a proper woman and make the public apologies I have listed above. Your hosting SNL is a bull**** reason for not taking five minutes to do the right thing and your behaviour yesterday will rebound upon you very badly.

You have no business abusing Amanda Bynes or anyone else. How do you think you made her feel yesterday? How do you feel when your friend Britney Spears is mocked and humiliated for having had mental health problems? I know I personally want to bash those who treat her that way. If she is your friend and more importantly if you are a true friend to her.. you ought apologise for joining those who mock and humiliate women who have been too nice frankly, to manage the music business without sensibly losing their minds.

Cease behaving in an anti-female capacity. You will become the victim of it shortly. Soon it will be you the media ‘crazy’ .. and you will not enjoy it.. and you will appreciate people (like myself) standing up for you. Which I will be happy to do.. if you earn my respect today by apologising publicly."

Curb your rancid tongue Miley....

I think Miley is doing this because she's hosting Saturday Night Live and I think she may make a reference to something Sinead did on the show once that got Sinead banned for life. (During a musical performance, Sinead ripped a picture of Pope John Paul in half with no hinting to the production crew.)

Yes so Sinead is a bit of a fruit loop, but she seems to genuinely care. For Miley to mock her like that makes her look like even more of twat than she already does.

I would let her get on with it Sinead.

Annie Lennox chips in:

"I have to say that I'm disturbed and dismayed by the recent spate of overtly sexualised performances and videos. You know the ones I'm talking about. It seems obvious that certain record companies are peddling highly styled pornography with musical accompaniment. As if the tidal wave of sexualised imagery wasn't already bombarding impressionable young girls enough..I believe in freedom of speech and expression, but the market forces don't give a toss about the notion of boundaries. As long as there's booty to make money out of, it will be bought and sold. It's depressing to see how these performers are so eager to push this new level of low.Their assumption seems to be that misogyny- utilised and displayed through oneself is totally fine, as long as you are the one creating it. As if it's all justified by how many millions of dollars and U tube hits you get from behaving like pimp and prostitute at the same time. It's a glorified and monetized form of self harm."

It's really annoying how these suppossed feminist icons paint these new girls like miley, katey perry, rihanna, as VICTIMS. they are in charge of their image.
It's really pathetic these old women thinking the world is still like the 70's.

Sinead and Annie need to **** and stop using young girls to get their names back in the press.

They are the ones coming across as media *****s, not Miley.

Whatever meds Sinead is on, they arn't strong enuf.

You really think they're in charge of their image? They arent. They are supposed to be musicians, what is musical about the stuff Miley has done recently (photography wise)? If you think it is anything other than pandering to the base interests of men, you're very naive. If Miley Cyrus released a single with a video of her singing in a long flowing dress I and probably millions of men would not have looked at the video. Get her bits out and shes worldwide news. If she and the others were all about the music they would have no need to do this.

If she and the others were all about the music they would have no need to do this.
oh please, she's been walking around in the same stupid spandex for a year before this new album. It's the media fetish for child stars that makes it controversial. Sinead should be harassing the press and journalists, not harassing Miley.

Miley can do her thing, and as far as i can tell she's having a good time at it.

Sinead hasn't been interesting for a long ****ing time, and this whole "mentor" role is so self-righteous and obnoxious, **** off Sinead, go form a book club with that short haired irish bitch from the Cranberries.

They are the ones coming across as media *****s, not Miley.
Anybody who ever has a view on a subject like this is always going to come under accusations like this. Could it not just be possible that they feel strongly about such matters and actually care? I am sure they have seen a lot of this throughout their years. It's a notoriously tough industry for most and a lot of artists are pressured to conform to what is expected from them.
