The Army doesn't want this. You have to have a good education and qualifications to get into today's Forces, 16 year olds who don't want to be there would be a bloody liability. However, I do agree with some kind of service... working with other young people, caring for the elderly or the disabled, working for the environment. It'd give lots of young people something to put in their CV at least as well as showing them how the rest of society works.

Making a 16 year old hate their life cus they suck at education seems a bit daft.

There are a lot of people who would benefit but its just not pratical to enforce it on a nation because it wouldnt help alot of the eligible teens whatsoever.

Also where would the money for their free driving lessons and education come from? Increase in tax?

I dont think its a terrible idea. There are a lot of 16-20 year olds on the streets with nothing to do. But you cant force all of them into something.
