So, in typical me fashion, that was another episode of Survivor. We've had plenty of worse premieres so I shouldn't be complaining, but this one was just weird.

I thought it was pretty solid tbh. I thought it was gonna end predictably (Ashley going), and I guess this was anti-climactic as well to not use the super idol, but there was some nice character development and entertaining storylines earlier in the episode.

I must've missed that nice character development when I was watching them cram an entire pre-merge worth of Heroes storylines into 20 minutes.

idk, aside from Alan's bizarre homoerotica on the beach regarding the idol nothing really happened for me? I was just sat there like for most of the episode, and only 2/3 people stood out for me too. I realise it's because we don't know anyone yet but I've watched season premiere's before and thought 'this is gonna be a good season' and was usually right, not getting that this time...but I hope I'm wrong!

Yeah I actually just got into that in the Rankings thread. I felt like it was great character development before I thought about each person in the cast individually. I realize plenty are lacking in the character development department right now. But 5/6 of the Heroes tribe and a few others got some really great air time so I have a very good sense of their characters already in just 1 hour. Plenty were left out though, yeah.

Yeah that's fair... I guess I was just REALLY entertained by the Heroes tribe and the little we saw of the healers & Joe in particular.

So you have a super idol that you can only use once and you can only use on the first tribal and you choose not to use it?

That was stupid. Happy with it though, Katrina was expendable.

Chrissy is very intriguing to me so far... even more so after she didn't use the super idol despite being pegged as the mom squad with Katrina throughout the entire episode. I really want to see what she says in the beginning of next episode now.

For a 1 hour premiere I think they did a pretty good job. There is only so much you can fit into 1 hour and we are just getting to know these people so I got no complaints. But it being a hour and a half would have been a lot better.

The female cast seems pretty weak this season..

That being said, early favourites are Alan, Patrick, Joe and Turtleneck guy.
Chrissy could have been one to look out for if she had some guts

Also, Joe seems more like a revamped and improved Russell (BB11) than a Tony (which really isn't a bad thing; and he's kind of his own person really as he's like a more strategic version of Russell).
